We were lucky enough to have it on the trails I frequent, albeit in better weather. Despite the challenges, spirits were high and we had a ball. 12 full years a stew!! Today is a BIG day in the career of a flight attendant. That’s when we finally make life sustaining money. 😂 Our pay rates are union negotiated so we creep our way up out of poverty and back to the life I was formerly accustomed. Despite penny pinching, I have the richest life imaginable. The highlights are HIGH, the low moments are mostly loneliness, missing the people I love. But that’s the good part - I just hop on a plane and head west. If you’re not too annoying, I’ll happily regale you with layover adventure stories not fit for print, maybe even show you the photo that could get me fired. 😂 I may know why your flight is delayed but I probably don’t feel like telling you and I have no idea why your bag is in Cancun and you are not. In other news, this song came out right before I started training and I still love it. Safe travels my friends, and be nice to your crew! 💞✈️ by @carinryan

Two months ago, inspired by a friend, I committed to running two miles a day for two months straight. Today, I fulfilled that commitment. As I age, my physical wellbeing becomes more important because I want to be as healthy as I can for as long as possible. Opportunity will knock and it will look like wake surfing or a backpacking trip or running around with my nieces and nephew, and I refuse to let my physical being limit those opportunities. I accomplished this goal through two weeks of busy days during the fair, 100 and stupid degree Texas heat, long and exhausting days flying, in several states, in different tennis shoes, with and without my contacts and headphones. During the fair, I was exhausted and nearly talked myself out of it. My best friend said to me, it’s going to suck while you’re doing it, but you’ll hate yourself if you don’t. She was right. This commitment reminded me that you ALWAYS have time, but that we choose to prioritize other things. And like my friend JoAnna says, it’s only 20 minutes. Do something hard. A few weeks ago, I found a stunning rosary in a front galley compartment of the plane. It was unusually beautiful and I couldn’t recall seeing another one similar to it. I resolved to check with the crew that had the plane before us to see if it belonged to them. I put it around my neck and wore it for the rest of the day. I vowed to take it to Mass with me Sunday and have it blessed by the Priest.

The next afternoon, I looked up from cracking ice and cleaning up my galley to see a Priest and his traveling companion settling into Business Class, front row, right in front of my jump seat. Interesting, I thought. I try not to bother celebrities and the mildly famous on my flights and for me, this includes Clergy. But the new found rosary was tugging on my heart. I served the passengers in my cabin, hearing the Father and his companion speaking Spanish. They were headed home to Madrid. God and the Rosary tugged a little more. I opened my Hallow app and read a bit about the Sacred Heart of Jesus. There it was. A Novena for the Sacred Heart of Jesus. It had been on my mind to pray a Novena but it hadn’t come to me, what exactly to pray for. But God knew.

I finally found the courage to interrupt the gentlemen. I explained that I’d found the Rosary and asked for a blessing over it. Father quickly obliged, praying beautifully in Spanish. After the blessings and Amens, he inspected the Rosary and told me that the Sacred Heart of Jesus is a shield of protection. Both men showed me small patches with the Sacred Heart symbol they keep in their phone cases to protect them from the “bullets” that come through their phones. The Father gifted me his.

We spoke of Devine Providence and that maybe the Rosary wasn’t lost, but that Sacred Heart of Jesus was meant to find me. The men went on to tell me they’re from the Iberian Peninsula in Spain and in the center of their parish, they have a Cathedral, to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Devine, indeed. To Spain, I shall go. This deserved a permanent spot on my socials. While it for a run in Cincinnati, I was capturing photos of color ideas for next year’s plantings. I came across the most magnificent piece of garden art I’ve ever seen. It’s a pot that spins with three kaleidoscopes set at different heights - each capturing a different image of man’s work and God’s blessings. I could have spent an hour looking at this microcosm of our spectacular world. So much to see if we just look up and around a little. 🥰💞💐 taken in Cincinnati, Ohio by @carinryan

The Kimball Art Museum in Fort Worth is currently hosting an exhibition of extraordinary holy objects from the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem. Relics include gifts to the church like garments worn by priests, deacons and bishops, vessels made from gold, silver and precious gemstones and ornate decorations, from European rulers of 16th century into the 18th century.

To be in a room with objects centuries old that were used to celebrate the same Mass that I celebrated at St Patrick’s Cathedral earlier today, was not only awe inspiring but deepened my faith. My synopsis and pictures fail to capture the grandness of these relics made by human hands over five hundred years ago. The artists were inspired masters of their craft and generations later, I’m humbled and grateful for their work.

The Church of the Holy Sepulchre, located in the Old City of Jerusalem, is of immense importance to Christians as it is built on the traditional site of Jesus’ Crucifixion and burial. The church was designed to enclose both the site of the cross and the tomb. The Rock of Calvary, where the Crucifixion is believed to have occurred, is encased in glass at the Altar of the Crucifixion and is the most-visited area within the church. A special day to wrap up birthday celebrations. Amber and I watched Come From Away at Casa Mañana Sunday afternoon. A spectacular show chronicling travelers’ fascinating week returning from overseas, diverting to Gander, Newfoundland when the events of September 11th, 2001 closed American airspace. The show was joyful, heart wrenching, hopeful and exciting. I loved that it highlighted Beverly Bass, American Airlines Captain of flight 49 returning from Paris. These past 11 days were easily the best of my life. When I’m on my death bed, I’ll remember this time spent with my family, reconnecting with old friends, pouring my life experiences into my nieces and nephew, strengthening bonds with people I deeply love. Jeep rides, coffee talks, mic drops, card games, weeping happy tears, laughing until I cried, and realizing that this life I’m living is because I didn’t fuck it up. Leaving here 12 years ago was the beginning of a terrifying adventure and every single hard decision and sad day let me have the happiest, most perfect birthday ever. God and my parents have given me a perfect life. I’m profoundly and deeply grateful. 🫶🏼🤩🥰 by @carinryan
