We are asking AI to make meetings more efficient. We should be asking if it is the right meeting to have.

Efficiency on the wrong thing just gets you to the wrong place faster. The better question is always why the system exists in the first place.

That is a leader’s call, and sometimes the strongest answer is no. To connect with me, email Carla@coatesconsultinggroup.info.

Some guys I worked with years ago told me I was not going to go far. It turned out to be one of the best things anyone said to me.

They could see I was sitting in the corner being quiet when I had something to say. They pushed me. Not to make me a man, but to make sure I knew I had a backbone and knew how to use it.

That moment changed everything about how I showed up.

If you are ready to stop sitting in the corner, the Girls Just Want to Be Free Retreat is for you. October 23 to 25, Sandbridge, Virginia. Just a few spots left. Reserve your spot at shesroars.com

One sentence. That's all it took.

"If you take care of the people, the people will take care of your mission."

A former director said it, one of my employees passed it on to me, and I have never let it go.

Whether you lead a team, a business, or a household, your people do not need you to pull rank. They need you to show up with care, empathy, and genuine concern. Do that, and they will take care of everything else.

Every financial decision is personal.

Levar Hewlett said it on Episode 23 of Lead Like You Mean It, People!: behind every financial decision is someone's family, someone's business, their retirement, something they spent decades building.

That realization changed how he shows up for every client. People first, always.

One year ago I told my coach I wanted to start a podcast. She said, "You should." And I did. 🎙️

Lead Like You Mean It, People! turns ONE today. I cannot believe it.

One year of incredible guests, real conversations, and so much growth. Thank you for being here, for tuning in, and for making this show what it is.

Here is to year two. 🥂

What got you here will not necessarily keep you here. 🔑

Chasta Martin dropped this on Episode 22 of Lead Like You Mean It, People! and it stuck with me.

Leaders have to flex, see what is in front of them, and address it. And you have to actually listen when your team tells you something, stop, reflect, and decide if it needs your attention.

Growth requires both. New episode is live. Check it out on YouTube.

The promotion is sweet, and you should be proud. Pat yourself on the back, you earned it. 🎉

But are you thinking what I was thinking 25 years ago when I stepped into my first leadership role? What have I gotten myself into?

That feeling is exactly why I wrote my book. Link in bio. 📖

Stop talking. 🤐 No really. My coach mentor Reggie Jackson Sr. taught me two acronyms I think about constantly. WAIT, why am I talking. Still going? WAIST, why am I still talking. Good communication is not about saying more, it is about listening more and being present instead of waiting for your turn to speak. #Leadership #CCGForward #WomenOver50 by @carlacoates.207

Two people told her she was going to be a millionaire. She said no both times without even thinking. 😶

Carol Boston didn't realize until 10 years later that she had been self-sabotaging, running old subconscious files from childhood that said wealth wasn't for people like her.

Sound familiar?

So many of us are carrying stories we didn't write, and letting them make decisions for us. Carol did the work to rewrite hers, and now she helps others do the same.

This conversation on Lead Like You Mean It, People! is one you need to hear.

Your story doesn't have to be perfect to be powerful. ✨

Michael Chaleff said it best in Episode 4 of Lead Like You Mean It, People!: even a "bad" story still works, because when you share something real, your natural spark shows up and people feel it.

More magnetic, more present, more connected. That's what storytelling does for a leader.

Whether you're in a job interview, leading a meeting, or giving a presentation, start with a story. Not someone else's, yours.

You're not just in the room, you ARE the room. 🔑

"You may not be the chief of anything, but you are the chief of that data."

Lisa Medley dropped this on Episode 7 of Lead Like You Mean It, People!, and I felt it.

You prepared, you did the research, and you have the information they don't have. Stop shrinking, stop over-explaining your right to be there.

Walk in, own it.

Thinking about what is next is not the same as deciding. If you are over 50 and ready to stop circling the idea and actually move, this live session is for you. Not a tech lesson. A thinking tool. #CCGForward #Womenover50 #Leadership #NextChapter #WomenWhoLead #LifeAfter50 by @carlacoates.207
