Day 1 didn’t go how I planned… I barely played and was pretty down. But my dad always tells me: “Success happens when preparation meets opportunity.” 💯So on Day 2 & 3, I stayed ready. I’m usually a left back, but the team needed me in GOAL 🧤⚡️ I stepped up, locked in, and pushed all the way to penalty kicks.PKs in goal are NO joke 😅 but we pulled it off and took home the U10 Copa Talento Championship! 🏆🔥 I even cried my first happy tears after that final save 🥹❤️Huge thanks to my parents, my amazing teammates, coaches, and @mustang360_soccer for believing in me! On Day 17 of our Black History Centennial, the world feels a little quieter. The Reverend Jesse L. Jackson Sr. has transitioned at the age of 84.He was more than a leader; he was a bridge. From standing on the balcony at the Lorraine Motel with Dr. King to leading the Rainbow Coalition into the halls of power, he taught us that we are "somebody."In 2021, my wife and I had the absolute honor of meeting him in Chicago. Even then, he was still focused on the work—still pushing for voting rights and economic justice. Seeing him in person reminded me that the "fire" of the movement doesn't have to go out with age; it just becomes a steadier flame. 🔥He famously told us to "Keep Hope Alive." Today, as we honor his transition, we commit to being the hope he spoke about. ✊🏾Rest well, Reverend. More photographed than the President. 📸🦁Welcome to Day 10 of the Centennial. Today, we meet the Lion himself: Frederick Douglass. While the world was trying to use "science" and "eugenics" to claim we were less than human, Douglass was using the newest technology of the time—Photography—to prove them wrong. He intentionally never smiled in photos. He wanted to look fierce, focused, and intellectual. He was a master of branding before branding was a thing. 🏛️But his greatest strength was his Will. After defeating a "slave breaker" in a two-hour physical fight, he realized that nobody could own a mind that refused to be owned. 🧠⚔️He went from being an "outlaw" who escaped slavery to being an advisor to Abraham Lincoln and the most influential voice of the 19th century.Dr. Woodson started this tradition in 1926 to honor this exact spirit. They saw them as a threat to the national economy and "terrorists" against the state.John Brown was executed for trying to start an armed revolution.William Lloyd Garrison had a literal bounty on his head for burning the Constitution.The Grimké Sisters were exiled from their home for exposing the truth of the system they were born into.They realized that you can’t be "neutral" on a moving train. They used these lies to justify the Holocaust, forced sterilizations, and Segregation.
