Still in awe of Maroon & Gold Shabbat 2026! I left feeling so inspired by the incredible students who helped create this amazing night, the leaders who spoke, and the supportive community who shows what strength really means. Once again this was a year of record high antisemitism yet here we all were, almost 500 Jewish students, alumni, parents, and friends celebrating Shabbat in one of the most public places on campus. I get chills seeing Minnesota Hillel Maroon & Gold Shabbat projected on the Jumbotron of a Big Ten School Football Stadium. How cool is that? It reminds me why it’s so important to keep doing the work I’m doing. In the face of hatred, we will not back down. We will keep showing up, celebrating joyfully, and inspiring the next group of young Jewish leaders. Who are we kidding, they are the ones constantly inspiring me. I’m constantly asked why I work at Minnesota Hillel.
A few years ago, my answer would have been simple: because I wanted to give back to the place that gave me everything.
Now, that is still true. But after the past few years, watching the world turn upside down and seeing the toll it has taken on Jewish students across the country, there is more to my answer. I work at Minnesota Hillel to support and lift up our Jewish students. To remind them that they are not alone, that they are strong, and that they have a community that believes in them.
Minnesota Hillel is the place that taught me how to be an inclusive and impactful Jewish leader. It gave me opportunities to see the world, from Israel to Germany, that shaped who I am. It is where I met my best friends, the love of my life, and the people who have become my family.
Now, as a staff member, I get to witness the next generation of Jewish leaders who are resilient, passionate, thoughtful, and brave. They give me hope for our future every single day.
Being a Jewish college student right now is no easy feat. So today, I am asking you to stand with them.
