Cowboy Knot Ceramic frame, oil on canvas, embroidery by @carlosbob
Soft Signal, 2026. Acts of cutting canvas, embroidery, and hybrid ceramic–painting elements reflect my processes of fragmentation and repair. My sculptural works draw on cowboy objects associated with control, adornment, and power. by @carlosbob

Assless Chaps Ceramic frame, oil on canvas, embroidery 23 x 17cm 2026 by @carlosbob
Passing through, becoming. Oil on canvas, 91cm x 61cm. I slowly chipped away at this one while recovering from chest surgery. This painting is a reimagined landscape that merges memory, geography, and emotional terrain. While creating this painting, I reflected on the desert as a site of resilience, transformation, and quiet strength in an increasingly overwhelming world. Enquiries to @nandahobbs by @carlosbob
‘Soft Brim’, ceramic sculpture, 37 x 32 x 12cm, 2026. The cowboy is often mythologised as a figure of freedom and toughness, yet is inseparable from frontier violence, land theft, and exclusionary ideals of masculinity. Growing up in the Arizona desert as a queer and gender-diverse person, I was surrounded by a cowboy culture I never felt I fully belonged to. Firing this sculpture in the kiln four times meant embracing the risk of destruction again and again, which felt right for a sculpture built around an image of toughness. by @carlosbob
