Come feel the funk with KWICK as we wind down this season of Stereo Sessions!

This Wednesday night, we’re digging into “To the Point,” a 1981 Memphis funk gem recorded by a group that had recently revamped after leaving behind the routines they’d honed as a softer soul act at Stax. Listen to the album in full and unpack its history with Memphis native and Grammy-winning hip-hop producer Carlos “Six July” Broady, nephew of late KWICK member Bertram Brown.

Come early to help us celebrate five years of Stereo Sessions with a free cocktail pre-party from 5 to 6 p.m., courtesy of Independent Bank, before the needle drops at Memphis Listening Lab.

There’s still room to join us, and the whole evening is free. Cocktails at 5. Music at 6.

RSVP now at StereoSessions.WYXR.org. taken in Memphis Listening Lab by @carlosbroady

This your final hour to breathe
For all you cowards and thieves (puff)
Put on top with permission
False Power achieved
Like boss, how you believe
for second when you step in the street
We don’t know your soul for sale
and Massa kept the receipt??
Life After Death on repeat (biggie)
Forever Classic
I smoke a Broady beat like a blunt
The minute he pass it…
