This Monday September 15th I took this portrait of my boss Jeremy. Late at night on Thursday the 18th the shop next door on the 3rd floor went up in flames. The 4th floor then collapsed onto the 3rd. The FDNY has been working hard dumping hundreds of thousands of pounds of water onto the building, (constructed in 1870) in an attempt to put out the fire from the outside since they cannot go inside. The water damage alone is likely enough to permanently destroy the shops and art of the many makers who inhabited the building. Jeremy took me in when I was 17 and my time working in his shop was critical towards becoming who I am today. I was taught how to be an adult with responsibilities that extended beyond myself. I’ve made and learned from countless mistakes and experienced so many memories that I hold close in this shop. Hundreds of artists and craftspeople worked in this building and could use all of the help they can get. The building will likely be condemned in the coming months and makers will lose they’re spaces as well as their work and equipment. I’ll link the GofundMe page for the building in my bio.
