We had the pleasure of bringing a brother from another mother — Advanced Design bestie, Offsite champion, and industrial designer at Whipsaw — Carlos Terminel to Chicago, to the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, to talk to SAIC IDSA students about “the hard way” and the 13 things he wished he’d known before graduating.

It’s a tough time in the industry right now, and Carlos showed up with real advice and real insights. God bless this man. Thank you for being a beacon in our community.

The SAVΘR water column is an analog visual indicator of how much time — and water — is left for your shower. It stores the first gallon of water (which usually goes to waste as you wait for your shower to reach the desired temperature), which then progressively drains out from the spout as your allotted time runs out. This prompts users to think not only in terms of time but in terms of volume of water, which extends beyond the shower to all daily water use.

Here are the temperature and timer controls for SAVΘR. The bottom dial accurately controls the temperature while the top dial sets the duration of your shower. Much like the dial in your toaster oven, the timer dial progressively returns back to its resting "off" position, automatically shutting off the flow of water. This holds users accountable to their shower time commitment and helps build better water-saving habits.

By increasing water pressure, SAVΘR can reduce the amount of water used per minute from the standard 2.5gpm to 1.5gpm, resulting in a savings of over 3,600 gallons per user per year.
