Meet 2026.2027 STLDT Trainee, Carly Ross (@carlyaross)! Sound on 🔊 to hear more about her experience as a trainee so far, and see her in our upcoming Fall Concert on November 21, 2026 at Nerinx Hall’s Heagney Theatre ✨

Carly Ross (she/her – Houston, TX) graduated from Sam Houston State University with honors, earning her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in dance, where she proudly served as president of the SHSU chapter of Chi Tau Epsilon Dance Honor Society. Before attending university, Carly performed as a guest artist with WhirlWind Dance Company and in “Houston’s Urban Nutcracker,” produced by Culture Arts Initiative. Later, she performed in Lenorris Arnold’s production of “The Iris,” HTX Connect’s “Spaces” (curated by Terrill Mitchell), and in NobleMotion Dance Company’s production of “Free Rein.” While in university, Carly performed at various events including the American College Dance Association Nationals, Dance Source Houston’s Barnstorm, Austin Dance Festival and the Texas Dance Educators Association convention. To date, she has had the wonderful opportunity to work with choreographers including Mike Esperanza, Gregory Dolbashian, Nicole Von Arx, Elijah Gibson, Christian Denice, and more. In addition to her traineeship, Carly teaches at St. Louis Academy of Dance where she aims to spark creative expression and a love for dance in young artists. She is honored and excited to continue performing and evolving as an artist as a Saint Louis Dance Theatre Trainee.

And just like that, Senior Studio is over. My dance, “The Weight of Departure,” has seen the stage and last night said goodbye.

I’m forever grateful for these five people above who made my process and dance so hard to let go of. The last few months with my cast felt like a dream, and I unfortunately just woke up. To my girls, thank you for your time, energy, and talent; I love you to bits, and I’m so proud of the work that we’ve done together.💐

To my family, thank you for your endless support and encouragement throughout not only this process but all that led up to this. I wouldn’t be where I am or who I am without you, and my gratitude for you extends beyond what you can imagine.

@carlyaross is NEW to Relevè Faculty and we cannot be more excited for her to share her amazing talented gifts with you all January 10-11 in Katy Tx.

Born in Texas, Carly Ross is attending Sam Houston State University pursuing her Bachelor of Fine Arts
degree in dance. As Carly progressed in her journey she experienced multiple areas of the dance world.
She moved from competitive dance to her ballet company and then onto the convention/competition
circuit, finally landing in the concert dance arena with NobleMotion Dance II while in high school. While
under the direction of Andrew and Dionne Noble, Colette Kerwick, and Lauren Serrano, Carly had the
privilege of performing works by Mike Esperanza, Evelyn Toh, and more. She also participated in
NobleMotion Dance’s NMD+ Day training program where she began to harness her skills as a
choreographer and teacher. Carly has performed as a guest artist with Joshua Manculich’s WhirlWind
Dance Company. She has also performed in Lenorris Arnold’s production “The Iris,” HTX Connect’s
“Spaces” curated by Terrill Mitchell, and as mouse queen in Houston’s Urban Nutcracker produced by
Culture Arts Initiative. While in university, Carly has performed at various events such as American
College Dance Association Nationals, Dance Source Houston’s Barnstorm and Mind the Gap, and The
Texas Dance Educators Association. She has also had the wonderful opportunity to perform in works
choreographed by Travis Lake, Jennifer Pontius, Nicole Von Arx, and more. Carly, both on the stage and
in the classroom, strives to create a supportive, engaging, and moving experience for those around her. She is very excited to be part of the Releve faculty!

Born in Texas, CARLY ROSS is a senior at Sam Houston State University and pursuing her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Dance. In addition to her studies, she proudly serves as President of the school’s dance honor society, Chi Tau Epsilon. Before attending college, she trained with the NMD+ pre-professional program for two years as well as three years with the NMD2 NobleMotion Dance Second Company. Before her time at Sam, she additionally studied with Complexions Contemporary Ballet, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, Joffrey Ballet, and the Dash Academy. Carly has previously performed in Houston’s Urban Nutcracker, WhirlWind Dance Company’s premiere performance, Lenorris Arnold’s “The Iris,” American College Dance Association Nationals, and “Spaces” presented by HTX Connect. She currently teaches and performs around the Houston area. Her most recent work, “The Weight of Departure,” will premiere in the SHSU Senior Studio Production this fall.
