Being affordable is not good business. 🤷🏾‍♀️

A lot of braiders think a good business strategy is being “affordable” enough that you can stay booked and gain clients.

You’re scared to raise your price because you don’t want to lose clients or not stay booked! However, what you don’t realize is you’re setting your business up to fail if you stay stuck in affordable rates.

Real business strategy is knowing your numbers.
Real business strategy is pricing for profit.
Real business strategy is making sure your business can actually sustain YOU long term.

Because if you have to stay overworked, underpaid, exhausted, and available to everybody just to keep clients… that’s not strategy. That’s survival mode.

A profitable business will always outlast a people-pleasing business.

Being affordable is not the goal 🙅🏾‍♀️

I used to think being “affordable” was the reason people would keep booking me.

Whole time… it was the reason I was stuck.

You can’t build a real business trying to make everybody comfortable.

At some point you have to decide if you want to be liked… or profitable.

Because the clients that question your price will always exist. But so will the ones that don’t blink when it’s time to pay.

Choose who you’re building for.

Your price reflects the type of business you want to have. If you want a business that will fail, build prices around what’s convenient for people. But if you want a business that thrives long term, build prices around what’s necessary for your business to yield wealth years down the line.

Yes, I lost clients 🤷🏾‍♀️

I lost people that wanted a deal
and gained people that value quality.

I lost long shifts for little money
and gained time, freedom, and peace.

I lost the need to people please
and gained the confidence to stand on my prices.

There’s a price to pay when you decide you’re done being overworked and underpaid.

A lot of hairstylists are so focused on what they might lose…they never stop to think about what they could gain.

I had to lose the wrong clients to meet my dream clientele.

You can look happier too, when you stop worrying about who won’t come anymore
and start thinking about who will (the ones that won’t question your price).

I’m sick of the generalizations 🤦🏾‍♀️

I’ve seen way too many people throw all Black hairstylists in one box because of a few bad experiences. And I get it, being canceled on, waiting hours, dealing with unprofessional behavior, that’s frustrating & very inappropriate!

But that’s not everybody.

There are Black women who take this seriously. Licensed, structured, running real businesses, protecting their name, and actually caring about their clients’ experience.

At some point, we have to be honest about what we’re choosing too. A lot of the disappointment comes from going for what’s convenient, cheap, or popular instead of what’s actually professional.

There are amazing hairstylists out here who don’t play about their work. You just have to do research to find them.

If you felt a little called out 👀

GOOD.

Because most hairstylists aren’t struggling with clients
they’re struggling with pricing.

Being booked does not mean you’re profitable.
And if your prices are based on vibes, fear, or what is comfortable for others, you’re going to stay overworked and underpaid.

I used to be fully booked and still not making what I deserved.

That’s what made me realize, this is a pricing problem, not a client problem.

Too expensive for the wrong client 🤷🏾‍♀️

My goal isn’t to be the most affordable. My goal is to deliver the best high quality service that gives my clients the best results.

There will always be someone that is willing to invest in the best service! You don’t have to settle and undercharge or undervalue your services.

Just because you’re too expensive for one person doesn’t mean you’ll be too expensive for another!
