We said goodbye to Nana earlier this month. She was surrounded by the boundless love she created and left behind memories to last a lifetime. I’ll miss her until the very end of this one. She borrowed her dad’s camera for her honeymoon, and my Papa took this of her on the beach. by @carmenemmi

@plainclothesmovie is in theaters now in NY, LA, and my hometown, Syracuse. For the last few weeks leading up to the release, I’ve been revisiting the footage I captured with my HI8 camera. It made me feel like I was back on set with my crew and actors and I wanted to share it with you. If you listen closely, you can hear some of the music I played on set. taken in Syracuse, New York by @carmenemmi

@plainclothesmovie has officially started its theatrical run. This movie has been on my mind since 2016 and working on it and sharing it with the world has been life-changing. The past year has been a whirlwind and I wanted to share photos from a simpler time; when a passionate group of people gathered in my hometown to make a movie.

Written and Directed by @carmenemmi

Early last spring I received a script for a film called “Plainclothes”. I read it, was spellbound. Set in 1997 Syracuse it follows a cop (Tom Blyth) who is tasked with ensnaring gay men in the mall bathroom, but he finds himself drawn to one of his targets (Russel Tovey).
It was as though this story picked up where my research for “Regards to the End” left off. I met with the director, Carmen, and was smitten. Carmen is a rare and true artist and friend, the kind of person you could stay up all night with trading songs and gossip, simultaneously crying and laughing. He got in the weeds with me and the music. Details, breaths, tones. And melody, always melody. It was like being at summer camp but in service of a film, of characters we were making real, who had been made so tenderly real through performance and direction, lighting and set and costume. One could fill a shelf with our various google docs, voice memos, texts, emails, videos etc. This is what it is to make something - obsession, friendship, and a desire to reach your hands out to an audience who might be willing. I’m so lucky I got to do it with Carmen and this incredible group of artists. I fear he has spoiled me for all future directors.

You can presave via the link in my bio and EVEN BETTER you can preorder via @bandcamp for today’s Bandcamp Friday.

HUGE thanks to @lornebalfe for your guidance through the process, to @arbelicious for finding this gem of a project for me. And to @jaggedlilwill @peteroriondavis @terrorbirdmedia @_hannahbeatrice 🤍
