What a wondrous time we had at the Lantern Festival, hosted by The Department of Illumination in Picton. This amazing community event falls at one of the most needed (by me, at least) times of the year - between the celebrations of October and the end-of-year holiday season.
Brava, brava, brava to Krista Dalby @small_pond_arts and the entire Department. We appreciate you!

Saw this incredible piece of Canadian theatre last night in Ottawa at GCTC.

Simply put, this is one of the most interesting and captivating works I’ve seen in a very long time - so much so that I’m left boggled as to why it hasn’t been produced ALL OVER THE COUNTRY.

Kudos to the entire creative team at GCTC, but especially to the directive vision of Artistic Director, Sarah Kitz.

Returned last evening to the place where I started my working life - Tisdale’s Falkon Theatre!
We had such a good time watching “Caught Stealing” the new Darren Aronofsky film. The popcorn was just as I remembered making it at age 14 - tasty, salty, light and delicious! Nothing has changed in this fabulous theatre … nothing. And that’s a good thing. We were even given a little jump scare as the staff turned out the house lights just as a trailer for The Conjuring was underway! #gotothecinema by @carmengrrr72

Stormé DeLarverie was an activist, community leader, fashion icon and influential figure remembered for her role in sparking the Stonewall Uprising. Born in New Orleans on December 24, 1920, to a Black mother and a white father, DeLarverie faced racial and sexual discrimination from a young age. Despite these challenges, she went on to become an iconic Drag entertainer, engaging audiences at prestigious venues like the Apollo Theater and Radio City Music Hall.

What DeLarverie is most remembered for, though, is her involvement in the Stonewall Riots. On this monumental day in history, police raided the Stonewall Inn, a space designed as a refuge for LGBTQ+ people. By 1969, the bar was one of the most popular in the country.

Spaces like this were accustomed to being raided by the police, a tactic used not only to criminalize people for being gay, but to incite fear and discomfort in the community. In fact, the Stonewall had a white lightbulb hanging from the ceiling that the staff would turn on when police approached, giving patrons time to stop dancing and separate from others to avoid being arrested for “lewd conduct,” “Masquerading,” or dressing as a different gender than society deemed appropriate. On June 28, 1969, one of these police raids changed the course of history. When the police tried to force the patrons to leave the bar, they refused. One officer struck one of the patrons dressed in masculine attire in the head with a baton, and DeLarverie punched back in response.
The six-day protest that followed mobilized LGBTQ+ communities and their allies both in the city and across the U.S. and sparked the LGBTQ+ movement of the 1970s. Apart from her role in Stonewall, DeLarverie’s influence extended into fashion and advocacy. Her androgynous style and refusal to conform to traditional gender roles challenged societal norms and inspired many in the LGBTQ+ and fashion communities. by @carmengrrr72

@paulalexandernolan … youthful (and first!) recipient of the Regan Grant memorial scholarship for Musical Theatre! 🥹🥹🥹
This is Paul and my mother, Mary, in 1996 at the University of Regina.
My brother, Regan, passed in 1992, and would have been BEYOND DELIGHTED to know that a scholarship in his name had been awarded to someone like Paul - kind, generous, charismatic, and extremely talented. Not unlike Regan himself. Oh, and also from a tiny town in Saskatchewan. 🌾🌾🌾 by @carmengrrr72
