Let me introduce myself…

My name is Carmen and I’m one of the funniest people I know.

I’m a multi-hyphenate artist: actress, writer, improviser and executive coach.

I’m many things and have a tendency to be a label rejector (unless it’s hot, talented, smart, hilarious, or a number of other complimentary adjectives.)

I am a cosmic being in a flesh onesie.

Side note: I AM is one of the most powerful mantras and our identity shapes so much of how we experience this human experience. End side note.

I’ve been marinating a lot on who I am, what I am, and why I am here on Spaceship Earth at this point in time and space.

Since I was cute, little Carmen with ole’ bangs, I remember feeling like I was here to do BIG SHIT. That there was GREATNESS inside of me.

Second side note: My first professional job was dancing with Debbie Allen when I was 16. The hottie lead of the show, Rasta Thomas, wore a shirt that said “being good isn’t enough, when you dream of being great.” It stuck with me. End second side note.

I’ve gone over the river and through the woods: substance abuse, no self-worth or self-respect, essentially giving up on my dreams, money issues, playing small, loving men who didn’t love me back…

YES…It has come to my realization that all of my suffering came from seeking love outside of myself. AND now she’s found a practice of coming back home.

I’m on a committed path to becoming the woman I always knew was inside me and creating a life that makes my panties tingle.

The only thing harder than pursuing your dreams is NOT. I know this from experience.

My intention is to continue to grow, expand, and shine brighter, and in doing so…light the way for others to do the same. To live in my genius and continue the process of mastery as an artist and individual.

Of course, in the most playful way: filled with perfect health, prosperity, panty-tingles and lots of laughter.

What we make matters, matters.

Yes, it’s been said many times, many ways.

And, this is something we always have the power to choose: where we are focusing our energy.

On what we want, or on what we don’t want.
On what we don’t have, or what we have to be grateful for.
On petty bullshit (and so much is petty bullshit), or on what truly matters in this game called life.

Learning is experiential. We learn from doing.

Yes, and…I really wasn’t feeling it today, so I took a heaping spoonful of my own medicine and made it playful.

Put on a little dress I had hanging around.

PLAY (and life) is a practice.

Showing up is a big part of the game.

Feeling Seen

This is a fundamental human desire: to feel valued and seen.

In order to be seen, we have to allow ourselves to be seen.

Grateful for the people in my life who make me feel seen and not just looked at.

Lucky or Smart?

Which one would you rather be?

My answer: LUCKY. I’d choose lucky any day of the week.

Why: People who consider themselves lucky, tend to experience more good fortune in their lives.

Conscious Luck, by Gay Hendricks is a book I love. He says luck is a mindset and we can cultivate this “luck” factor.

Richard Wiseman did research experiments on luck. Very fascinating.

Michael Beckwith calls LUCK = Living Under Conscious Knowledge.

This is a question I love to ask.

Nine years ago I moved back to LA…

One of my Carmen-isms “the only thing harder than pursuing your dreams is NOT.” This is a wee bit of context. Take 1 - not so cute. I left a burned out, hot mess.

I so vividly remember walking around the lot of the car dealership in TX, where I was selling cars, when a little voice whispered inside: What if you didn’t ruin your chances? What if there was still a shot? What if?

There wasn’t a plan to move back. I got invited to come help with Camp Hollywood in 2017 and I decided I wasn’t going back to TX.

There are moments where I feel cray-town, moments that feel hard, and YES, moments that I kinda want to quit.

AND there is a lot of joy, beauty, and fun.

Our desires come from the divine. They are in us for a reason.

It’s been said that winners are people who just never quit.

So in this spirit, I’m climbing the cringe mountain and continuing to figure it out as I go. Dialing it up on being willing to look stupid, get told no, and dance in the unknown with a greater sense of knowing.

Just like the one-armed alligator wrangler, we figure it out as we go.

Ending with a slate for self-amusement.

*For those that don’t know: when an actor sends in a self-tape aka an audition tape, we slate, which is usually our name, height, and location.

Something happens within me, the more I’m super present to and surrounded by art and its value to humanity. Focusing on all the art in my life and the way I’m already living my dream is a VIBE.

Monday - one of the most fun self-tapes. Grateful to my badass actor friend, Chris, for helping me with one. Win - getting the audition and double win being really proud of what I sent in. This one was hilarious, y’all.

Tuesday - finally went to see the Odyssey.
Got 2 audition notices on the way to the theatre. Went home and taped one audition and sent it in.

Wednesday - went to the beautiful library downtown for extended focused writing time, inspiration, and change of scenery.

Thursday - Shakespeare in the Park - brought six people who had never experienced this magic before. Just WOW 🤩

Friday - @rainvaldez gave me the BEST coverage of a feature script I wrote a few years ago. Loved going through it.

And went to see the Cycle of Love. IT ROCKED MY WORLD. GO SEE THIS MOVIE!!! YOU. ARE. WELCOME. It’s about a guy riding his bike from India to Sweden for the love of his life. I had no idea I would get to meet the Oscar-winning director & the real life couple from the movie. @thecycleoflovefilm

Writing daily on a new show inspired by my experience selling cars. A woman car dealership owner. Small town. Big drama. 🔥🔥🔥

Creativity is one of the post powerful acts of LOVE.

So very grateful.
