Pleasure to be part of making history and remembering why we parade through the streets of Notting Hill Carnival. Freedom is a must — and I’ll keep activating for the culture all year round, building teaching communities that share the real history of Carnival, from Jab Jab to every tradition that shaped us. All while being a proud mother to my three beautiful children.

This year, I had the honour of creating and directing the visuals for @tropicalislescarnival Isles’ truck, carrying the legacy theme forward. At the same time, Cake Club stepped in as a T-shirt sponsor for @nhcarnivalldn in collaboration with @footlockeruk x @adidasuk

What a beautiful way to celebrate Black History Month – Honouring Our Communities! ✊🏾

This week, Carter was recognised for his incredible writing, stepping into the shoes of Katherine Johnson, a pioneering Black woman whose brilliance helped change the course of history at NASA. 🚀🌍

To see Carter using his imagination, empathy and powerful vocabulary to tell her story makes me incredibly proud.

Carter, you are a great achiever, and you are destined for greatness! 👑✨

Never allow the world to place limitations on your potential. Your mind is powerful, your voice matters, and your future is limitless.

Black history isn’t just something we learn about. It’s something our children are continuing to make. ❤️

Our story did not begin with slavery.

Before oppression, there were creators, leaders, visionaries, builders, storytellers, Kings and Queens. Our culture has always been rooted in knowledge, craftsmanship, music, ceremony, faith, family, joy and community.

We acknowledge what our ancestors endured but we refuse to allow their suffering to become the beginning or the entirety of our story.

Through Carnival Creates and The Claudia Jones Legacy Carnival King & Queen Pageant and Awards, we want every generation to see beyond survival and recognise the power, beauty and greatness that have always existed within us.

We are not reclaiming our royalty.
We have always been royal. 👑

The Carnival Creates School Curriculum brings Caribbean culture to life through creative, hands-on workshops. Pupils can explore Carnival history, design costumes, make feathers and masks, try steel pans, dance in costume, print tote bags and T-shirts, and take part in photography, DJ and music, spoken word and poetry.

Carnival is often described by masqueraders as the best day of their lives. The Claudia Jones Legacy Carnival King & Queen Pageant and Awards will give them another opportunity to relive that moment—this time as individuals. 👑

Every masquerader brings a unique costume, journey and story. We will also honour the talented costume designers behind the mas, inviting them to take part in presenting the creations they brought to life.

From Carnival Kings and Queens to Junior Kings and Queens, every generation will have its moment—and every applicant will be crowned.
