The Carnoustie Buddon Course is forged from the same outstanding dunescapes as The Carnoustie Championship Course and provides a test of golf equal to that of its renowned big sister.First designed in 1981 by Peter Allis and Dave Thomas, The Carnoustie Buddon Course is the newest of the three 18-hole courses at Carnoustie and boasts a rich mixture of classic Links combined with rich tree lined fairways and lakes in a biodiverse setting. Interestingly considered the most, and least, Links course at Carnoustie, it commences along the North Sea’s edge, affording breath-taking vistas of the bay.As the round unfolds, it seamlessly transitions into heathland terrain before gradually embracing a parkland setting. Here, picturesque lakes teeming with wildlife grace the landscape, a testament to Carnoustie’s ecological stewardship and sustainability endeavours. Reverting to a Links-like character on the back nine, the course culminates in two exceptional tests of Links golf and offers a perfect end to the round. Built on ex-military land, each hole is named after a famous battle.carnoustie.com | +44(0)1241 802270#TheCarnoustieBuddonCourse by @carnoustiegolflinks

The Carnoustie Championship Course is a must-play for every golfer. Voted the World’s Best Golf Course in 2019 and host to eight Open Championships, two Women’s Opens, and three Senior Opens, Carnoustie is revered globally. Known as the toughest course on The Open rota, it challenges every player and is rightly coined Golf’s Greatest Test®️. From the moment you tee off to the final putt on the 18th, the course demands strategic thinking and resilience, immersing golfers in its rugged beauty.Key holes like the 6th, Hogan’s Alley, the Spectacles bunkers at 14, and the Barry Burn-encircled 17th offer both challenge and charm. The final three holes are renowned as the toughest finish in golf, requiring precision and nerve.Carnoustie’s rich history is not just in its age but in its contribution to golf. Legends like Ben Hogan, Tom Watson, Gary Player, Paul Lawrie, Padraig Harrington, and Francesco Molinari have all triumphed here. The town’s residents, known as The Carnoustie 300®️, significantly impacted American golf by taking their skills to the U.S. in the early 1900s.Did you know?Carnoustie also pioneered the use of white and red flags to decipher between the front and back 9 holes, and is home to the world’s oldest ladies’ golf club.carnoustie.com | +44 (0)1241 802270#TheCrnoustieChampionshipCourse #GolfGreatestTest by @carnoustiegolflinks

The Carnoustie Burnside Course is steeped in history and dates back to 1892. It served as a qualifying course for The Open Championship in 1953, notably witnessing Ben Hogan’s qualification for the Championship, a prelude to lifting The Claret Jug on The Carnoustie Championship Course later that very week – the only time ever that Hogan competed in The Open Championship. The origins of The Carnoustie Burnside Course go back over 130 years. In 1892, 9 holes were laid out by Robert Simpson of Carnoustie (Golf Professional and Course Superintendent) and Tom Morris of St. Andrews. This was one of the first instances of club adding a second course - pre-dating the New Course at St. Andrews by two years. The course evolved over time, eventually getting to 18 holes in 1914. At that time the course measured 5,151 yards, and occupied pretty much the same land as it does today, curled up inside The Carnoustie Championship Course. The next major change to the course was in 1934, when it was lengthened and strengthened and finally given a proper name - The Carnoustie Burnside Course. The course, now measuring over 6,000 yards is a tidy and challenging venue - very much one of the ‘hidden gems’ that Scottish golf is blessed with. As its name suggests, the course winds over and around the Barry Burn, and is protected not only by that feature, but also by narrow fairways and small greens. The bunkering is minimalist, but all are well placed to influence the golfer’s strategy. This course more than holds its own against some of the better courses in the country.carnoustie.com | +44 (0) 1241 802270#TheCarnoustieBurnsideCourse by @carnoustiegolflinks

The Championship Course - Hole 2 - GulleyAvoiding the fairway bunkers is vital if you are to reach the green with your second shot. As the green is over 50 yards in length, there can be four clubs difference between a pin position at the front edge and one at the back of the green. How would you play this hole? carnoustie.com by @carnoustiegolflinks
