26 years ago today, we adopted our two beautiful daughters. This massive cyanotype of our oldest, when she was 3 years old and had been with us for only a few weeks, is in 16 pieces, each piece representing the 16 placement moves she made, the final one to be with us. by @caroleartndesign

✨Artist Spotlight: Carole Thomson✨

The host, the owner of the house and the reason this Open House exists!

This year, Carole is showing a mix of work, her classic blue botanical cyanotypes, toned cyanotypes, mixed media dry point etchings, and a series of lesbian icons featured on our Pride wall.

The lesbian icons are a series of drypoint etchings with charcoal and gouache offers contemporary interpretations of portraits by Romaine Brooks and Berenice Abbott who, in the 1910s and 1920s, had to hide their sexuality while bravely depicting their female lovers. Working from their primarily black-and-white imagery, Carole crops in closely on the face and introduces colour with the red lip to honour and brings renewed attention to their often overlooked legacy.
