We’ve been busy! Flew to South Island NZ, visited a Kiwi Hatchery(endangered native bird), went to a working farm, including sheep shearing/sheep dogs managing the sheep. Just leaving Lake Tekapo after hiking Mt John (the photo with the observatory) as well as a visit yesterday to Mt Cook, the highest mountain in New Zealand. We did not climb Mt Cook! 😎 by @carolejoy03

Today we visited the Whirinaki Rainforest learning about the history of the forest through our Māori guide-Destiny. We were treated to a traditional hangi luncheon at the Kohutapu Lodge. Destiny took us to Māori rock carvings dated to about 1100 AD. On our way back, a quick stop at the New Zealand “Yellowstone” mudpots. by @carolejoy03

Today’s adventure through the 30 million year old Waitomo Caves where there are glow worms unique to New Zealand. They provide an amazing luminescent light on the ceiling and sides of the caves. The bones are from the extinct Mao. Capped off by walking the swinging bridge in Arapuni. by @carolejoy03
