The Honest Hands Studio documentary is live and this felt like a great behind-the-scenes follow-up. James and I secretly have a lot in common but on paper couldn’t be more different. He’s a professional maker creating incredible tattoo-inspired art in Alberta. I’m usually the guy behind the camera trying to tell stories like his. Every once in a while, though, our worlds overlap- whether it’s an interest in traditional tattoos, a shared appreciation for making things, tummies easily getting upset, or lacing up the same pair of Carolina boots before heading into our respective shops.Huge thanks to @carolinashoe for supporting independent storytelling and the makers who inspire it. The Honest Hands Studio documentary is officially live. James and I spent an entire day filming, woodworking, and making each other giggle with belly tickles. The Santa Maria grill project from #sparksandsawdust is complete. Many thanks to @greenmoneyfab for finishing up what we weren’t able to complete over that weekend. Chris finished it out and spit shined it up and brought it up to East Durham NY this last weekend while we were all up at @jimmydiresta annual gokart event. I gave the grill to @the_phoenix_woodshop at the end of Sparks and Sawdust since Tom put such an effort into the build of it. Tom immediately put the grill to work Saturday cooking for the many folks attending the gokart event. Looking forward to seeing his future cooks on it. Special thanks to my buddy @choptop0130 over at @jonesweldingsupply for getting most of the steel materials and welding supplies brought out for me. He has been a close friend for going on 30 years, all the way back to the days when I still actually had some artistic talent. 🤣. @jonesweldingsupply is my sole source for all of my welding equipment and supplies. I still use a @millerwelders that Mike sold me over 20 years ago. If you are in the southeast, reach out to them. Another big thank you to @smithmetalworks in Columbus Ga. Robert and his team laser cut the parts and did the bending that was needed on some of the plate parts. They also applied an extra sheet of steel since obviously I was in too much of a hurry to do the math on the drawings. @smithmetalworks does all of my railings and metal fab that is too big for me to do on all of my real world work projects that I do for a living. They offer full line of services from small to big big and bigger 😂. Reach out to them if you need some large metal fabrication. Once again a huge shoutout to my friends over at @carolinashoe for the support in Sparks and Sawdust and many things since. I greatly appreciate our partnership. Real life isn’t always instagram ready with fancy airplanes and stacks of cash. Most of the time it’s dirty, muddy, tight spaces, and a pain in the ass. My bright idea to tag @samgreen_maker awesome basket gokart with a @carolinashoe sticker seems to have involved me talking smack to @nick_freitas7 and then having it backfire on me when I couldn’t get the sticker backing off myself.
