My heart is to write stories that stir people’s soul and make you feel deeply. But the one thing I’d never want you to feel is betrayed.

I’ve recently realized that the way I have marketed my books may leave some readers feeing exactly that way.

My heart is never to add certain content solely for shock value, but rather to paint a picture of love that goes beyond the surface and can heal even the deepest of wounds.

I am a reader who loves to be surprised (throwing books across the room is the best feeling…) but for those who don’t enjoy a plot twist as much as I do, or who carefully guard themselves against things that bring them pain, I don’t take lightly the amount of trust it takes to open a book and let the words someone else has written enter your heart.

I would never, ever want to break that trust.

I recently read a post that said if you market your books and yourself as an author correctly, content warnings won’t always be necessary for each book you write, because your readers already know what to expect. So I want to be fully open and honest about what you may find in the pages of my stories.

“Write the stories you want to read.” This is something I have heard alot, and something I have told myself over and over as motivation while writing the Enduring Hearts Series.

But this week, a friend said something that challenged me and revealed an even deeper meaning behind these books—“Write the stories you want your girls to read.”

The romance genre is beautiful… but a lot of the time I find myself in the middle of story that has either traded heart for heat, or the story is so perfect that I struggle to connect to the characters.

I want to write stories that feel real. Stories full of broken people, with broken pieces. Characters that you can connect with so deeply, that when they find love and joy you feel like a part of your heart has healed along with theirs. I want to write stories that stir every emotion, that don’t shy away from the ugly messy parts of life and love, but also highlight the things that make love worth pursuing. (And also stories that always have a happy ending—because why read a book if there isn’t a glimmer of hope at the end??)

But above all I want to write stories that I would be proud to let my daughters read. Stories where love isn’t found in a fleeting spark of desire, but in the beauty of being seen and known. The kind of love that holds on when others would let go. Stories where love is patient and kind, where it heals rather than consumes.

There are many ways to tell a love story, and every writer and every reader walks their own path, but this is mine-gentle, enduring, full of life and hearts that burn bright.

After alot of prayer, countless back and forth decisions, I have decided to remove my story from the Planning On Christmas Multi-Author series.

I am so grateful for all of the incredible authors involved for being willing to go along with my impulsive idea and making this the most enjoyable experience!!

As me and my family are preparing for Baby C #3, I have felt the Lord telling me it is time to take a season of rest. I’m not sure exactly what that looks like for all my other stories, but I know that it starts with relieving myself of the pressure of self-inflicted deadlines and creating content.

I am looking forward to seeing the fruit that comes from this next season of growth and rest as I soak in extra time with my family, friends, intentionally grow in my craft, and find joy in writing again.

I loved Nathaniel and Emilia’s story, and I was rooting for them from the very beginning! I also really appreciated that their relationship wasn’t rushed. It made seeing everything unfold feel so worth it 💕

I absolutely read this as a standalone but now I definitely need to go back and read books 1 & 2! 💖

The Duke & Duchess of Kenswick are thrilled to announce the official release of their love story!

This story and these characters hold such a special place in my heart, and I hope you love them as much as I do.

Writing this story grew me in so many ways. Exploring Emilia’s struggles with identity and anxiety helped my own heart heal in ways I didn’t realize were hurting.

Writing Nathaniel allowed me to relive so many of the early moments of my husband and I’s relationship and the loving, patient way he cared for me.

Through the process of finishing and releasing this book, my family has gone through many changes and challenges, and to see how those experiences shaped this story and characters was beautiful. Now I get to live out our own happy ending right alongside of Nathaniel & Emilia ❤️

❤️ A glimpse into the history of To Have & To Hold

The wedding vows spoken by Nathaniel and Emilia can be found in the Book of Common Prayer, which was the traditional Anglican prayer book used throughout England in 1815.

Most of these vows are commonly recognized and used in marriage ceremonies today.

“To have & to hold from this day forward…”
“For better for worse, for richer for poorer, in sickness and in health….”
“To love and to cherish until death do us part…”
“With this ring I thee wed….”

But there is another part of these vows that we don’t hear as often today, and to me, these words symbolize some of the most beautiful aspects of both marriage and Nathaniel and Emilia’s love story.

“With my body I thee worship, and with all my worldly goods I thee endow, and thereto I plight thee my troth.”

In other words: “I will honor you. I will respect you. I give my whole self to you, and all that I possess. I promise to share with you not only my future, but the deepest parts of who I am. To you I pledge my loyalty, my faithfulness, and my trust.”

To Have & To Hold was inspired by the vows that Nathaniel & Emilia promised to one another and the way desired to honor them….even before they had each other’s hearts.
