Apparently my toxic trait is thinking “I wonder if I could get really good at that?” and then rearranging my entire life to find out.

Hi, I’m Caroline. I'm a mixed media artist in McKinney, TX.

I didn't grow up knowing I wanted to be an artist. In fact, painting is only the latest in a long history of becoming completely consumed by whatever fascinates me.

First, it was pole fitness. I went from "this is fun" to competing, becoming a champion, quitting my office job, and teaching and performing professionally for eight years.

Then at 29, I decided to start figure skating again. Naturally, I became obsessed, moved five minutes from a rink so I could practice more, and entered my first competition a year later.

Then a random Facebook ad introduced me to painting.

You can probably guess what happened next. 😂

A few things about me 🔽

🎨 I paint because there is something about making a feeling visible that I cannot get enough of. Sometimes that means bringing a recognizable subject to life. Most of the time lately, it means throwing color at a canvas and seeing what happens.

🏡 I live in McKinney, Texas, where a concerning percentage of my home has slowly been overtaken by canvases, paint and art supplies.

⛸️ I am physically incapable of having a casual hobby. See above.

♍ I'm an identical twin and will absolutely ask you your astrological sign if we talk long enough.

🖌️ These days I mostly work on raw cotton canvas with water, acrylic paint and oil stick. I love giving up just enough control for the painting to surprise me.

If you also love turning on every lamp instead of the big light, treating blank walls like a personal emergency, buying something because “LOOK AT THE COLOR,” and making the group chat jealous of your home decor — you’re in the right place.

The plot requires a few failed experiments, babe. 😂

Some things work out. Some things become a very expensive pile in the corner.

Either way, I got to play. And that’s kind of the whole point. taken in McKinney, Texas by @carolineperryart

5 years since I last put on my pole heels, and apparently some things really are like riding a bike. A very tall, very impractical bike. 😂

There’s something really fun about revisiting an old version of yourself and realizing she’s still very much a part of you.

I think we get so caught up in becoming who we’re going to be that we forget we can bring all our favorite parts of who we’ve been along for the ride.

Anyway, retirement was cute while it lasted. 🥀

A little roll call of paintings currently in my good graces 😂

I’ve been playing with handwritten messages, inky washes, and soft blended ombres.

Words carry their own kind of energy and become a part of how we experience our world. And there’s nothing more delicious to me than having a little spell hanging on my wall.

This week has seen a little art, a little alchemy, and a LOT of playing around in the studio 🪄

Which one is your favorite? I’m curious 👀 taken in McKinney, Texas by @carolineperryart

It’s never too late to start…or start again 🫶🏻

Yes, it’s hard.
Yes, it hurts.

Some things came back effortlessly like riding a bike. Some will take practice.

All that matters is I’m moving and I’m loving it. 🫶🏻

Here for it all! ❤️‍🔥 taken in McKinney, Texas by @carolineperryart

I’ve been giving myself more room in the studio lately to make things without deciding ahead of time what they need to become.

That’s how this new collection of Studio Studies came about.

I started playing with texture, color, and composition simply because I was curious about what might happen. There was no finished painting in my head, no pressure to make something worthy of a collection, and no attachment to whether any of it “worked.”

Ironically, that freedom produced some of my favorite little pieces.

It also reminded me how quickly attachment can turn possibility into pressure. When we become too invested in a particular outcome, we get careful. We second-guess ourselves. We stop following the interesting thing because we’re too busy trying to get somewhere specific.

And I don’t think that only applies to painting.

Some of the best things I’ve created (and experienced) have come from following curiosity before I knew where it was taking me.

Play isn’t frivolous. Play IS possibility.

The new Studio Studies are now available exclusively to my Collector’s Circle members before they’re released publicly.

If you’d like first access, comment PLAY below and I’ll send you the private link + a little gift from me. 🤍 Abstract floral painting in warm peach, cream, blush, rust, olive green, and black tones displayed on a neutral textured wall above a terracotta console, styled with delicate flowers in a black marble vase. by @carolineperryart

Yeah. We’re finally dealing with that 👀😂.

A little original. A little color. Problem solved.

Beautiful separate or as a pair 🤍.

I have zero interest in transcending the human experience. I want to be completely and totally amazed by it 🫦.

Make the art. Wear the nice undies. Go somewhere beautiful. Learn something completely unnecessary. Let yourself be moved.

I don’t think we’re here to rise above being human.

I think we’re here to get really fucking into it. by @carolineperryart

Being realistic has talked people out of more good lives than failure ever could.

Take the trip. Make the weird career move. Start over. Start late. Change your mind. Move away. Spend money on something beautiful. Follow the thing you can’t stop thinking about.

If “fuck it, why not?” has no fans, I’m dead. 💀 taken in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence by @carolineperryart

Anyone else or just me??? 🫠

Nobody warned me that becoming an artist meant giving approximately 97% of my available brain space to mixing the perfect color, adding just one more mark, and whatever else my current project needs from me.

But honestly, I wouldn’t want it any other way. I love being this obsessed with making beautiful things.

If you love the idea of owning art made by someone this obsessed with it, comment COLLECT and I’ll send you my current available works. 🤍 taken in McKinney, Texas by @carolineperryart
