POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Photo by Reilly from inside our office studio that frequently finds me. An example of art meeting architecture meeting art meeting architecture meeting art.

Subsumed texture. The corner that this pic is of looks a bit different now. I will share more when ready! This one is close. (insert cackle here).

Forever finding reasons to wear the moon shirt I picked up at a neighbor's yardsale last year. Don Was was fun, btw! So very fun.

Carved pumpkins with new friends. Mine is the goofy one at the top left. We'll call it Frankenstein. The "eyes" and "mouth" were originally going to be cats, but then mid-carve I switched to bats and then squiggles. So.

I very much enjoyed mixing a fun, playful activitiy, ie carving pumpkins, with casually discussing the plastic plant going in that serves not the majority. Mixing pain with pleasure can result in positive things! (*can*, not guaranteed)

Priscilla has made her appearance in a new Subsumed piece. This is the first piece in this series on this type of canvas. And it is the first with collage UNDERNEATH the paint.

I am never not dreaming of the sea.

Also, how fun is this song?

POV you come with part of the Solstice team on a trip to the hardware store to pick up supplies for light fixture mock ups.

What in the world are we up to?!

Architecture/design sketches ft. the radical Hydra Lamp by @jjjmcdonald in india ink and pencil, a study of thresholds for an @solstice.designstudio project [The Property] in pencil and Posca and a sketch inspired by a @walidsiti painting using a scraggly old Posca with a perfectly frayed tip.

15 pieces connected by palette and symbolism - before I chopped them into individual works. Classic Squirrel (cat) move - stand directly in shot on top of works. Wouldn't have it any other way.

2026, mixed media on 100% cotton, acid-free Stonehenge paper: watercolor, India ink, charcoal, acrylic, oil pastel. Each piece approx 6" x 7". Available, link in bio.

Architecture, design, art - it's all the same [game] to me.

Gilded feminine gold. Tired of the mass plastic. Exploring massing with copy paper and Frog Tape. Found a nice, comfy black turtle neck felt cute in the @solstice.designstudio office. Alabaster lamp love and a beautiful marble and wrought iron gazebo. Collage-y bits. Grand staircase obsession. Words to live by.

Deconstructed collage comprising inky black pools reminiscent of marble variegation, corinthian column (a muse), hands + arms + peach, and of course a pop of red.

This stack of fragments has sat on a drafting table in my studio for a minute. I frequently pull out the pile and play with the pieces. Not sure I plan to lock them into any particular composition.

Some things are better left "unresolved". (Is that, then / therefore a "resolution"?)

MAKE SPACE FOR ART! MAKE SPACE FOR YOUR PRACTICE!

Moments of joy and bliss and quiet and rest and inspiration and love love love. The ocean calls again and again.

Sketching in a Moleksine sketchbook is one of my favorite things to do while sitting on the beach, drinking morning coffee or on a road trip. I try to do this daily in some format...not always charcoal, not always sketchbook.

HBU? Are you keeping up with a daily mark-making practice?

"The Hum" from The Hum - a group of 8 mixed media pieces I worked on earlier this year.

Inspired by the vivid bustling bursting city scenes from recent years traveling around Utah and Ohio. Buildings, beings, street lights reflected on rainy streets and the like.

Liquid watercolor ink, acrlyic, india ink, oil pastel, charcoal pencil on mixed media paper.

Faces found me in slick, thick and shiny black + washy sepia (acrylic).

I worked with one of my favorite tools on this painting, see slide 2.

Walking the line between figurative and abstraction. Seeing forms and shapes in the swooshes and scrapes of paint. I look for suggestions from my marks.

The canvas is a scrap of plywood from the construction of an architectural paper/sheet organizer. Level plywood scraps make a great painting surface. Un-gessoed, the paint sinks into the wood grain and creates a nice watercolor/stain effect.
