London is making it rather difficult to keep up with everything worth seeing this October.

First on my list is Salman Toor at The Courtauld. His extraordinary green paintings draw on the techniques of the Old Masters, but tell stories of contemporary life, identity, and human connection. I particularly love the contrast between the two.

I’ve put together my October art calendar with a few exhibitions I think are well worth a visit.

Save it, send it to a friend, and make a date of it.

Extraordinary talent, a $450 painting displayed on a beach towel, a $1.6 million auction result, one of the most powerful art dealers in the world, and a rather unexpected romance. The story of Anna Weyant has all the ingredients of a Hollywood screenplay.

From her early discovery by gallerist Ellie Rines to joining Larry Gagosian’s roster, Weyant’s rise through the art world has been nothing short of extraordinary.

And now, a rather fabulous fashion crossover. Her work has found its way into Vanity Fair, alongside Marc Jacobs, bringing together two worlds I find endlessly fascinating: art and fashion.

A story worth knowing, and an artist worth watching.

Some houses are so cinematic, they end up becoming film stars themselves.

Tucked away in one of Milan’s most elegant neighbourhoods, Villa Necchi Campiglio was built in the 1930s for the Necchi sisters, Gigina and Nedda, and Gigina’s husband, Angelo Campiglio.

Designed by Piero Portaluppi, the villa was the height of modern Milanese sophistication. Marble, walnut, extraordinary interiors, a tennis court, and one of the city’s first private swimming pools. Quiet luxury, long before it had a marketing department.

Almost 80 years later, Luca Guadagnino chose the villa as the setting for I Am Love, starring Tilda Swinton. The architecture became as much a character as the actors, with Jil Sander dressing Tilda and Fendi dressing the men. It was later featured in House of Gucci and a Tod’s campaign.

Today, the villa is open to the public, and stepping inside feels like walking straight onto a film set. One of my absolute favourite places to visit in Milan.

And while you’re in the neighbourhood, don’t miss the rather unexpected colony of pink flamingos living behind the gates of nearby Palazzo Invernizzi. Because, of course, Milan has flamingos.

Failed his A-levels, sold frozen fish fingers, and went on to build Monsoon and Accessorize. Peter Simon clearly had a rather unconventional career path!

Born during a monsoon, Simon later named his fashion business after the very storm that welcomed him into the world.

His extraordinary travels inspired not only his business but also an eclectic art collection, featuring works by Francis Bacon and Bridget Riley, alongside treasures collected from around the world.

I visited Christie’s last week to see his collection before it went under the hammer. A wonderful reminder that one of London’s best-kept secrets is tucked away on King Street: Christie’s free auction previews. An opportunity to see extraordinary art, often destined for private collections, without spending a penny.

Who needs a museum ticket when you can wander into Christie’s?

Tour de France in Hyde Park 🚴‍♀️

For 11 years, my morning commute from Notting Hill to Sloane Square took me through one of London’s most beautiful routes, passing Kensington Palace, the Albert Memorial, the Serpentine, and the magnificent Physical Energy, the charging horse sculpture by G. F. Watts, symbolising humanity’s restless ambition and determination to achieve the seemingly impossible.

Rather fitting, considering the Lycra-clad cyclists hurtling past me, competing for the fastest time on the Strava leaderboard.

Apparently, certain stretches of Hyde Park are timed, with cyclists tracking their personal bests and competing against fellow commuters. What I thought was a perfectly civilised commute was, in fact, a competitive sport.

And then there’s the rather fabulous splash of yellow at the Serpentine: Jesús Rafael Soto’s Pénétrable BBL Jaune, an interactive installation of 4,000 suspended yellow tubes that visitors can actually walk through. On display until 25 October.

A little art, a little history, and an entirely unexpected Tour de France. Who knew the morning commute could be quite so competitive?

Villa Cléo has everything I want in a dream home, which is slightly inconvenient because someone else already owns it.

Tucked into the hills of Rayol-Canadel-sur-Mer, it has that very specific Riviera magic I am always trying to bottle: a little 1960s, a little glamorous, a little undone.

Owned by @mariechardin and Mattias Magnusson of @acnestudios, the interiors were reimagined by @stamuli with just the right balance of mid-century nostalgia and modern restraint.

The star for me is the enormous low-slung built-in sofa in Pierre Frey’s blue ‘Ninfea Mania’ fabric, sitting beneath a row of black-and-white French cultural portraits. Then there are the local Pierre de Bormes stone floors, which somehow make the whole thing feel connected to the landscape outside.

It is bold without feeling loud, polished without feeling precious, and exactly the sort of house that makes me think I would suddenly become the sort of person who reads every book on my list, hosts long lunches and never once checks her phone.

I would like the keys, please.
