My local newspaper, @siadvance , wrote a story about me. The link is in my bio. I’m trying to raise hope and awareness so please check it out!

Here’s some of it:

The fainting had started even before Carolyn Vento gave birth. Afterward, she could barely get off the couch, and her health only worsened as she tried to recover from a C-section and care for her newborn daughter.

During a difficult pregnancy, she experienced symptoms that she said were attributed by medical professionals to being pregnant. But after giving birth to her daughter in November 2014, Vento continued to decline. In addition to fainting spells, she was suffering from intense night sweats and eventually developed a rash and high fever.

“I kind of wanted to believe that I would get better, and it was nothing more. But I knew deep down, I was really sick,” she said.

Cancer made me ask “why me?” more times than I can count.

Why cancer? Why my life? Why did everything have to change?

11 years later, I may never have all those answers.

But “why me?” has now turned into “watch me!”

Watch me live. Watch me thrive. Watch me speak up. Watch me turn what happened to me into a reason to advocate for others.

You don’t always get to choose what changes your life, but you do get to choose what you do with your voice afterward.

So if you’ve ever asked, “why me?”

There’s a difference.

After cancer, you realize how much it means to simply be here and to get dressed up, take the picture, laugh too loud, and celebrate yourself.

Cancer can take your hair, change your body, mess with your plans, and turn your whole world upside down, but it doesn’t get to take YOU.

Surviving cancer doesn’t undo what happened.

The time you lost. The body that changed. The relationships that changed. The friends you’ve lost. The innocence of believing you’ll always be healthy. The version of yourself that existed before cancer became part of your story.

Women are so often expected to keep going, take care of everyone, hold it together, and somehow still be the strong one.

After cancer, that pressure doesn’t magically disappear.

But a woman who fought for her life doesn’t need to spend the rest of it proving how strong she is.

She deserves slow mornings. Quiet days. Rest without guilt. A life that doesn’t always demand something from her.

Sometimes, being here is enough. 💕
