I thought I’d be okay looking through memories of Josiah tonight; but grief often surprises me. And sometimes, the sense of loss hurts just as much as it did in the beginning.

God has been teaching me since my early teenage years when my journey with grief began, that Grief is not an Enemy of Faith.

I firmly believe that through the acknowledgment of human reality, the testimony of the Holy Spirit is made clear and known to those bearing witness.

Grief is not spiritual failure. It is a natural human response to significant change and loss of different kinds.

Grief does not diminish your faith.

There are plenty of people in the bible who rather openly and even vocally grieve. Job, David, Jeremiah, Naomi, Jesus. To name a few.

So yes, my grief sometimes causes pain. Often both physical and emotional.

But every time, walking hand in hand directly beside all the hard; is hope, joy and peace.

These things for me, are found through knowing Jesus. Knowing that the grave is not the end. That Jesus has the final word. That His spirit lives in me, giving me joy and peace and hope time and time again.

Christians; don’t beat yourselves up in grief.
It is okay and normal.
It is formative and character building.
It is where Jesus is near.

This week I have been reminded that it is by His Spirit working in me and through the people God puts in my life that I am able to hold a posture of gratitude and joy in the same space as grief.

Not my might, not my power, but His Spirit.

Thank you Jesus for your peace that surpasses all understanding. Thank you that you are near to the brokenhearted. Thank you that joy comes in the morning 💛 by @carrahpearce
