Taking local trains instead of the shinkansen between Osaka and Kyoto is significantly cheaper with only a minimal increase in travel time. Two common travel mistakes to avoid abroad. ATMs in foreign countries often ask if you want to be charged in local currency or your home currency. Always choose to be charged in the local currency to avoid up to a 5.5% markup on exchange rates. Similarly, when paying by credit card, never accept to pay in your home currency—vendors’ exchange rates usually include a hidden 4.5% fee. Always pay in the local currency to get the best rate. #TravelTips #CurrencyExchange #TravelHacks #Finance #TravelSmart by @carryonmitchell
