My husband says that family vacations aren’t a vacation. But he’s wrong! I’m a physician and a mom of 4. Follow me to learn how to enjoy those trips!

Vacation looks a little different these days with one our kids being newly diagnosed with #t1diabetes 💙

Checking sugars on the beach. Treating lows in the middle of an adventure. Counting carbs in places we never imagined we’d be counting anything. And making sure there’s always a stash of emergency candy within reach. 🍬

Type 1 diabetes definitely came along for this trip—but it didn’t get to control our vacation.

We’re learning. We’re adapting. We’ve found the tools and resources that help us keep our daughter safe. And somewhere between the glucose checks, snacks, alarms, and “just one more finger poke,” we’re still doing what we came here to do:

Making a lifetime of memories together. ❤️

Vacay may never look quite the same again. But different doesn’t mean we stop going. ✈️🌊

PS Dexcom don’t transmit data well when underwater….good thing we brought floaties!

Maybe the best part of summer vacation isn’t the destination.

It’s sandy toes. Salty hair. Staying up too late. One more swim. 🌊

It’s watching them run toward the ocean and realizing that someday, these will be the summers they remember.

We’re not just taking trips.

We’re giving them a lifetime of memories. 🤍

And hopefully, a childhood they’ll always want to come home to.

‼️Warning: this pumpkin patch reel contains laughter, sugar highs, cute animals and questionable outfit choices 🎃😂.

👧🏼🧒🏻🦥 The kids had a blast trying @lemonadelabb, picking out our seasonal front porch decor, and meeting animals like tortoises, llamas and even sloths!

We’ve been to dozens of pumpkin patches over the years, but found a new fav when Dad decided to have a random #saturdaynight adventure! And while fall adventures with kids are never calm — we always carry on.

No iPads. No Wi-Fi. Just swimming pigs, paddleboarding with goats, and peacocks who clearly own this island. 🐷🐐🦚

Pro mom tip: Never fly solo… bring your village. 👯‍♀️✈️
We’ve had au pairs for most of our parenting life, and when it comes to travel, having them with us is everything. From extra hands at security to extra arms for sleepy littles — it’s the secret to surviving (and sometimes even enjoying) flights with four kids. 🙌

Even if an #aupair isn’t in the cards, look into bringing your trusted high school/college-age babysitter! As a college student, this was my favorite side job!!!

Never calm. Always carry-on. With 9 kids amongst 3 families, it’s never a dull moment.
