5 FAVORITE HORIZONTAL IMAGES… …of my career!!!! This will be the final day of this 11 day series, and I wanted to end it where I began. The first half of my career I only shot snow. These days I’m more of a hunter than anything but I love shooting snow more than anything else on the planet. To me, snow looks different every time I’m out and ski touring is my favorite winter activity. Thanks for following along on this series! It was super fun for me to do with all this down time! The first image is at sunset in southern Utah. Japan is a very special place to me and it’s rare to get sun and epic snow. This shot has it all and is one of my two favorite images I’ve captured in Japan! This to me is the epitome of Wasatch powder! The cold snow and the bluebird sky just screams Utah to me!!! This is a classic Japan shot but there are many fine details that make it truly special! Zebra light, epic snow and just a tad of ski and pole to show there is a human in all that snow creates the perfect Utah ski photo!!! by @carstonoliver
5 FAVORITE BACKPACKING IMAGES… …of my career!!! Day 7 of my 5 favs and I was only planning on 7 but I’ve had some requests so there will probably be more!!! Backpacking was one of my dreams as a kid. We camped a lot but the thought of everything I need on my back and to be able to go where ever intrigued me!!! Now backpacking or camping of some sort makes most of these images I post happen. Backpacking is the base of everything I do and some years I spend more time in a sleeping bag than in my own bed. This first shot is in the Bridger Mountains of Montana! Last year I did a shoot for the launch of the new @yeti backpack and this is one of the gems from that trip! The Lost Coast in California is probably the flattest backpacking trip I have ever done but if you find yourself there it’s a must do! Southern Utah is filled with hidden treasures and this place is one of them! Again in the Bridger mountains of Montana. by @carstonoliver
5 FAVORITE MOUNTAIN BIKING IMAGES… …of my career!!! This one is fun, cause it pushes my vision locally!!! All these shots are in Utah but in different places. We are pretty luck here in Utah to have the amount of biking we do!!! This first shot is down in Southern Utah and probably my fav bike shot I have taken!!! Sunset and the Great Salt Lake!!!! Central Utah desert riding!!! More sunset and Great Salt Lake!!! We were absolutely captivated by this desert lightning storm in southern Utah!!! by @carstonoliver
5 FAVORITE TRAIL IMAGES…. …of my career! I’ve shot plenty of photos on trails through my career but these are the standout running or hiking shots that for whatever reason get me every time!!! I stay pretty local for trail running shots so many of these will be here in the Wasatch. The first image I had biked this trail hundreds of times and then one time while biking I realized I needed to come back and shoot some running! The aptly named Crazy Mountains in Montana give a very “Lord of the Rings” feel to this shot!! Something gets me when there is snow on the ground. And it just makes running look epic!!! Here we are in the foothills of Salt Lake City! Southern Utah isn’t known for its water so when you do find it, the desert just seems friendlier! Wasatch Peaks at sunset make for pretty shots but lots of down hill in the dark! by @carstonoliver
5 FAVORITE VERTICAL SKI PHOTOS… of my career!!! These 5 were super hard to pick and I might do a horizontal post later. There were so many that brought back amazing memories of epic trips but I landed on these cause of the places, people and hard work to get them!!! This first shot is in the Tordrillo Range of Alaska. @carolinegleich is skiing a line outside of camp and we had to wake up super early and climb to the top of this line for days and the sun wouldn’t come out. Finally one morning the sunrise popped and we got this shot!!! We had to get up early for this one too! Scouted this air the day before and had been looking at it from our camp for two weeks. Finally it all lined up and @zackgiffin aired over this crevasse cave in Glacier National Park, Alaska! Another early morning of hiking for 4 hours in the dark to one of the most remote peaks in the Wasatch Range of Utah, just so @carstonoliver could ski pink snow with a unique background! Didn’t have to wake up early for this one!!! @karstenhart_ figured out a way to get across this creek without getting his feet wet in Hokkaido, Japan. This was one of the earliest mornings in Alaska I have had. And it was totally worth it!! @pepfujas had no problem skinning for hours in the dark to crush this line in amazing light and snow!!! by @carstonoliver
Welcome to the family Little Freyja Bean! Nikko thinks we got him the best toy ever, one that bites and runs and barks, a little sister 😂 Just two days after getting home from Norway we adopted Freyja from @ohanarottweilerrescue and while we’ve occasionally questioned our sanity to be adding another puppy to the mix at this point, she has of course already found her way into our hearts. I know this temporary insanity is all part of us trying to fill the Ukko-sized hole in our lives, and this floppy bundle of joy sure helps 🖤 so happy to have you in our lives little one! by @carstonoliver

RIP 🕊️ Ukko Oliver McIntyre 🕊️ 3/13/2020-1/7/2026 To our sweetest, goodest boy who we miss so so much. Thank you for choosing us to be your humans. Thank you for giving us the incredible gift of living your life with us. Ukko was a lover of the world and every being he crossed paths with. He was the goofiest, wisest, most adoring creature we’ve known. He tried to befriend boxelder bugs, snails, chickens, hissing cats, goats, ferocious dogs, and a 5-point buck among other things 🙃 He was most famous for his ‘scrunch face’ smile (see the last photo) that would greet us every morning, every time someone came to the house, or whenever he was feeling particularly happy, which was a lot. He loved tiny sticks and huge logs. He could fit an entire soccer ball in his mouth yet also loved miniature squeaky tennis balls made for chihuahuas. He once stopped from chasing a ball at a dead sprint to pick up a little stuffed animal frog that had been left at the park. It became his constant companion. Ukko helped us through so many hard times over these past 5 years, through illness and the death of family and friends, and it’s hard to imagine life without him. He was the joy in our days. After several months of trying to treat a cough that wouldn’t go away, he was diagnosed with cancer in December. We were so hopeful that chemo and radiation treatments would help, and the end came much faster than any of us anticipated. With all the hardship in the world right now, losing our best friend has been shattering. It is such a visceral missing, waking up each day without him. We are grateful for every moment we shared. We will love you and miss you forever Ukkonnen. Thank you, thank you, thank you for everything 🙏🏽✨🤍 by @carstonoliver
Happy holidays from us to you 🤍🤍🤍 by @carstonoliver
In true @carstonoliver style, he dropped into the ceremony from the top of our neighboring mesa on his bike in his suit. He rides this line fairly often, but that’s not to say it’s easy! It’s more free ride than trail, linking steep sections of sandstone with chunky basalt boulders aka ‘monster trucking’. Swipe for video ➡️➡️➡️ My biggest hope and desire in planning this weekend was that it would feel very *us* and things like this, along with having all of our loved ones join us in a massive circle rather than standing in front of them made it feel so perfect 🤍 Photos: @brucetremper + @jaybeyerimaging by @carstonoliver
We finally did it! Thanks to everyone who helped, attended, and sent well-wishes, this celebration was a community effort and we feel so very loved and supported by all of you 🤍🤍🤍 cheers to LOVE and spending the rest of our lives together!
