This is how we Rally at Hat High. This is Hawk culture. This is the Purple Shirt Pep Rally of 2026, and man what a blast. All brought to you by Hat High’s own student leadership team and the fine athletes of the Hawks basketball program, to bring hype to the Purple Shift Day basketball games, which spread awareness and raise funds for ALS in partnership with Karen’s Purple Shirt Party… but more on that later.

Medicine Hat High School and the Hawks are proud to present Purple Shirt Day 2025. And what a day it was! From a morning pep rally at school, to our center stage Quad Basketball game, halftime shows, games, and more! Over the week (now officially named as Purple Week in the Hat) we built up hype for the event and cause with sponsored products from local businesses, in school decorations and events, and of course the infamous ALS Ice Bucket Challenge! We’d like to give a big thanks to all the sponsors, participants, and attendees of the event and festivities throughout the week! As well, big thanks to @lci_basketball for coming out to support while giving a great show of Basketball!

If you don’t know why we do this or what this is, let me explain. In 2017, Karen Wagenaar pasted away from Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, or ALS. ALS is a rapid neurodegenerative disease, with a 100% fatality rate. The @alsalberta society is an organization aimed at finding a cure. In 2018, the Wagenaar family founded Karen’s Purple Shirt Party to help raise awareness and funds for the research towards a cure for ALS, so that no more families have to suffer from this tragic disease. Every year since, Hat High has put on Purple Shirt Day, dedicated to helping KPSP in every way we can. This year was our biggest year yet, and we hope that it only continues to grow! This year, the City of Medicine Hat officially named this week “Purple Week” in recognition of ALS and the Wagenaar family’s efforts for it. Now that you know what ALS is, and why we host Purple Shirt Day, you can return to the last slide.

Get involved! Learn more about how you can help Karen and @alsalberta at alsab.ca !! Get hype and get ready for next year… Purple WEEK 2026!
