posting this on a bus to seattle, felt appropriate. thinking about how there is a lot comfort to find in being uncomfortable. comfort comes from security and security means you have something to lose and losing anything you've come to know makes you uncomfortable. humanness is cyclical and (possibly) impossible to satiate. by @cartographicmemory

sometimes i write a bunch of things all on top of each other when i don’t want to remember what i’m about to say. words, sentences, paragraphs, but not necessary in that order. big and small and messy and neat until it’s just a bunch of incongruous and indecipherable overlapping lines. i don’t know what i was writing about but i hope you can’t make anything out. by @cartographicmemory

wine-stained, blood-stained, tear-stained, splat. i really loved making this. i had a whole grimes phase where i listened to art angels on repeat for like months, and something about this lyric stuck with me for some reason. “everybody dies, we cut out their eyes and we dance like angels do.” i thought it was harsh and strange and beautiful. i have a lot of black and white images cut out that i don’t utilize enough, but i like them here, all together. i was never the biggest jackson pollock fan, but last summer i got to tour his home and studio. the floor where he painted has been preserved, you can see the where the edges of the canvases laid from the cut-off drips and drags from his most famous paintings. you could probably place them back on the floor where they were created and the edges would fade into their less renowned counterparts—the drips that didn’t get to travel to museums across the world, were never marveled at by critics and visitors, but instead lay forever resting in a small building in backyard in long island. i also rarely use paint in my collages but i wanted to match the color of the wine. just thought i should tell you. by @cartographicmemory

“polite company” by rainbow kitten surprise always seems to make me hyper-aware of my heart resting in my chest. the whole song feels like a slow moment in time outside of the world i exist in, or like i’m overhearing a muffled conversation in the next room; the words coming from the mouth of someone who has felt intense love and longing and heartache, but recognizes that beauty and pain can exist simultaneously.

What will hold you when the dance is through?
Put your back against the wall
Follow syncopated water fountain conversation
Making love inside a crayon covered bathroom stall
What if I don't find you, take you there?
I only want what I can't have
If you love me, give me nothing
