Progress report: Almost done!

@elvelorio is around the corner

On Saturday, October 10

Celebrate art, culture & Día de Muertos with us at @plazadelaraza in L.A. 💀🥀💀

I will participate with my oil painting “Mi señora de la noche”, inspired by Pascal Quignard’s three nights —the silent night before life, the sleeping nights of the living, and the night of death— through the lens of mexican popular culture and classic greek and mesoamerican mythology. In this vision, Catrina-Persephone-Mictecacihuatl opens the gate to the land of the dead within her embrace. The title resonates with a similarly named novel by Mariana Enriquez, one where the protagonist is a medium who serves as a gateway to a dark and inexplicable underworld of eternal night.

This years curators: @irenehfeiks @lilmanny3 @superchiefgallery

Thank you @laprintmaking for the Mini Print LA 2026 catalog surprise I found in the mail last week, it is the perfect documentation for an incredible show.

And thank you for featuring my aquatint etching in the cover. “Don’t lose your head over this” was printed as an edition of eight at Chayote Press in DTLA with master printmaker @israelcamposart. To describe it I wrote the following passage:

“Present day chaos and sense of impending collapse have kept me thinking about the “invisible hand” guiding social action as conceived by capitalist foundational criminal ideologist Adam Smith, and the false pretense of a social system that claims to provide shelter and care, while in fact it exploits, drains and extracts without restraint, driving society down a path of imminent doom. I wanted to explore this "hand" as a colossal symbol that holds us at our most vulnerable, and capable of crushing us without us ever noticing.”

Anyone interested in acquiring a copy please DM. I have five left. by @cartoon_distortion
