5 top tips for getting the best 3D scan of your car or bike! šŸ™Œ 1. Pick a spot that has plenty of space. Make sure you arenā€™t too close to a wall or fence, that you donā€™t have any obstacles in your path and you arenā€™t parked right next to another vehicle. Aim for 3m from the vehicle, or when the whole vehicle fits in frame. 2. Sunlight is our worst enemy. Too much direct sun and the car becomes invisible to us, as seen in the photo. This results in mirrored finishes, light refractions or blurry surfaces. 3. Keep the whole vehicle in frame! The centre of the frame should meet the centre of the car at all times and all angles. This gives our processing system context for where things on the car should be. If youā€™re too close, a fender, or front wing, looks the same on either side of the car. Keeping the vehicle in frame allows for a more accurate model. 4. Move slow and steady while youā€™re capturing the car. Aim for 40-50 seconds per loop. You wouldnā€™t video your car with shakey movements, so donā€™t scan like it! šŸ˜… 5. Get closer to your interior and engine! This is where you can get closer and pick up the details where it matters most. Once youā€™ve completed your loops, getting your phone inside the car or directly over the engine bay is going to pick up the details that the scan hasnā€™t captured from the showcase loops. Bonus tip: a cheap selfie stick can be your friend here. It allows you to place the phone lower to the ground and higher in the air to make life a bit easier.
