So thrilled for my mentor and dear friend Sandra Lord as her touching and timely short film, CINNAMON, celebrates its red carpet premiere today as an Official Selection of the renowned, Oscar-qualifying LA Shorts International Film Festival.

It’s been an absolute pleasure working alongside such a talented group over the past year-plus, and I’m especially proud to have been asked to design the film’s official poster.

CINNAMON is a bold, thought-provoking and tender story about race relations, seen through the eyes of children: a 7-year-old Chinese girl and a young Black boy whose friendship offers a touching perspective on the world around them.

Starring extraordinary emerging young talent Xiaowan Jin as Emily, Zylen Drew Arnaud as Trey, and Ayla Margaux as Julie, who courageously took on challenging subject matter and emotionally raw roles, delivering poignant performances that genuinely moved me to tears.

The film’s title song is performed by D.B.L. & Tra’Zae, with an original score by Aiko Fukushima and a soundtrack featuring music from OneRepublic, Laufey, Mandisa and Gizzle.

There’s a special musical legacy behind the title song as well. D.B.L. is mentored by the legendary Jackie Jackson, while Tra’Zae is the granddaughter of funk icon George Clinton, bringing the influence of two musical legends to a new generation of artists. ✊🏽
