Three Breathing Teapots, 2025
Cotton, PLA, wood, air pump system

Ruihaonan Wang & Cassidy Yitong Chen

Quoting Barbara Stauffacher Solomon’s Taoist quote on her explaining the situation in which graphic elements and texting fill about the plain — “the essence of a pot is its emptiness.” It is its concrete wall of the vessel, usually obscure, works as a liminal space telling apart the inside and the outside. An action of emptying a pot transfer the placement of its object — where a mutuality of transferring, or a good balance, is vital in both physical and theoretical notions, say atmospheric pressure. Thus, an emptiness is not really of emptiness, rather it is a form that is always subject to change. Breathing is relatively an impulsive form of such transformation and is, however, subtle and repetitive enough as if it’s a natural of stillness. In meditation breathing is stillness, in any scientific subject the still being is nonexistent in the intervention of time. The motion is in the stillness and vice versa. We are all breathing in the world of motion, and we need stillness to pebblestone the paths we’ve come alone.

Finally had some time after graduation to look back and organize things…Some pics from the show I co-curated with Tairan Hao @tyhao629 and Yuko Nii last month at Williamsburge Art and Historical Center @wahcenter2025. It was my first time organizing something on this scale, and I feel so happy and fulfilled to have had the opportunity to bring these magnificent works into the space.

Huge thanks to all the artist friends for your support🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼 by @cas_idy
