A slice of Puglia, reimagined on the Gold Coast 🌞

Inspired by the sun-drenched beauty of southern Italy, this elegant new build brings a sense of earthy sophistication to everyday family living. After falling in love with the whitewashed limestone homes and olive grove landscapes of Puglia, homeowners Danika and Brian set out to capture that same magic.

The result is Casa Franc, a warm, light-filled sanctuary named after their daughter Francesca, where dappled sunlight, natural textures and Mediterranean-inspired details create a home with soul. It’s a far cry from the original ’90s brick house, once defined by white walls and grey tiles, now thoughtfully transformed into a space that embraces its surroundings and celebrates slow, intentional living.

Take a full tour of this beautiful build at the link in our bio now. or pick up a copy of this month's Home Beautiful while it's still on sale.

Most of our home is filled with warm, earthy tones, but I always wanted our powder room to be bold and a little unexpected.

I was nervous about colour drenching the entire room in this colour, there were definitely questionable looks at me when it was in progress 🤣🤣

But I’m so glad I trusted my gut.

Because every home needs a little fun, right?

The most interesting homes are the ones that tell you something about the people who live there.

One of my favourite things about visiting someone’s home is discovering all the little details that make it theirs.

The colours they’ve chosen, the pieces they’ve collected, the things that have a story behind them.

I’m always so curious about why someone chose something, where they found it or what it means to them.

I genuinely love seeing people’s creativity and how differently we all make a home our own.

Because I think there’s a story behind so many of our choices, and that’s what makes it all so beautiful. 🤍

A little behind the scenes of Franca finding her place at Casa Franc.

Something I’ve realised about my own style is that I love bringing colour into a home through art. I can keep the larger elements a little quieter, then let the artwork bring personality, warmth and colour into the room.

And Franca does exactly that here. 🤎

After being involved in the creative process, seeing her finally arrive and go up on the wall was so special. The colours against the limewash, the scale, the way she sits beside the arch…she just feels like she belongs.

The original Franca now lives here at Casa Franc, but @yasminlane.art is releasing just 200 limited-edition prints worldwide.

I love that she gets to find her way into other homes. by @casa__franc

Meet Franca by @yasminlane.art

She was created with Casa Franc in mind, and somehow she feels like she’s always belonged here.

She represents slow mornings, quiet rituals and the beauty of simply being present.

I also got to name her — Franca, inspired by Franca Sozzani of Vogue Italia.

I’m honestly so touched that Yasmin was so open to hearing my creative thoughts and ideas throughout the process. It felt like such a dream to be involved in something this special, and I’m so grateful she now lives here.

One thing I think people do when they’re trying to work out their style is keep looking for more and more inspiration.

I actually think the better thing to do is go backwards.

Open your Pinterest board and look at what you’ve already saved.

Not each image individually.

Look for the repeats.

The same stone.
The same timber tone.
The same colours.
The same furniture shapes.
The same kind of rooms.
The same feeling.

That pattern is telling you something.

But then go one step further and ask yourself why you keep coming back to those images.

Is it the warmth?
The texture?
The imperfect finishes?
The old pieces?
The softness?
The way the room feels?

For me, it was always natural stone, warm timber, old pieces, patina, earthy tones and things that felt a little imperfect.

Once I understood what I was actually responding to, decisions became so much easier.

You don’t need to copy what you love.

You need to understand why you love it.

That’s how you start trusting your own taste.

Need help identifying yours? Send me a few of the images you keep saving over and over and I’ll take a look.

How do you make a brand-new home feel like it has a bit of history behind it?

That was one of the questions I kept coming back to while creating Casa Franc.

I had this very clear picture in my head — Puglia in summer. Our own little masseria. Warm, textured, relaxed and a little imperfect.

So that became the filter for almost every decision we made. Nothing alone created the feeling; it was the layering of all those little choices and staying really consistent with the vision.

By the end of the build, apparently the trades had started saying, “Danika won’t like that. She’ll want it this way.” Love this 🤭🫶 by @casa__franc

Project feature ~ Casa Franc

Shaped by a 2019 trip through Puglia, Casa Franc is a calm, soulful family home layered in warm, earthy tones and natural textures.

Travertine, limewash, walnut and aged brass create a quiet European feel, while considered lighting brings the spaces to life. Some fixtures disappear into the walls, while others bring all the soul.

We chat with Danika about the vision behind the home, the materials that shaped it and why not everything needs to be the hero.
