Body, Body Love [BST-X019]
by BILLY WOOST

Billy Woost never released much music, but the single album he released in his heyday was enough to secure him a place in the sights of consummate archivists of Italian groove.
Best Record chose to present the best jams from Woost's album on two different 12-inch records, released less than a year apart. The first deluxe vinyl, with a blue cover, contains three tracks that exude classic disco charm.
"Body, Body Love" is presented in a previously unreleased disco version that flows at a slow pace but is full of energy, while "Please Touch Me" increases the intensity with a set of strings, brass, and vocals. Meanwhile, "Sleep," bright and lively, a little unconventional, draws on a Blockhead-esque funk, which obviously makes it even more special.

Dominating the second 12-inch (which features the same artwork as the previous one, but in red), "Vibrations" sounds splendid, its wide-screen vision of disco funk production at its finest. In contrast, "Baobab" sounds even more powerful with its killer bass groove, dream-pop vocal trills, and an overall feel-good vibe.
Putting all the tracks on the two vinyls together, it's natural to think of the original album from the late '70s by this extraordinary but hidden musician. by @casalinidj

Believe it or not but facts show that Italo disco was named in Germany.

In the early eighties, American disco was hard to find in Italy. DJs relied on importers like Claudio Casalini, an Alitalia worker who flew records home from London and New York.

Then Italy started making its own records on small labels, built for clubs and for export.

German distributors licensed them and needed a name to sell them under. Bernhard Mikulski at ZYX stamped the sleeves Original Italo Disco.
The genre's name is a shelf label, and the shelf belonged to someone else.

From there it spread through Germany, Scandinavia and Eastern Europe, and into Chicago, where Frankie Knuckles and Ron Hardy played it while house was taking shape. Problèmes d'Amour flopped in Italy, and a Chicago importer bought ten thousand copies.

It became a genre only after it left.

Special thanks to @danilobracatsonyc Braca and @casalinidj for helping get the facts right.
