A palette doesn’t have to start with a paint chip. Start with something the client already loves, like a painting from their travels.

It carries their story into the room and gives you a built-in colour story that feels personal instead of trendy.

For an anchor colour, choose one you can live with for years, not one that will wear on you.

I start with the room that will make the biggest impact, or the one that has to work the hardest.

On this project, that was a narrow, empty sunroom that needed seating, a desk, and a den-like feel.

But nothing begins in the room. It begins with a scale floor plan.

Hiring an interior designer isn’t paying for someone to pick pretty things.

You’re paying for a plan, a process, and someone to carry the weight of the project so you don’t have to.

The real value is everything you never see: the decisions made before they become mistakes, the problems solved before they reach you, and the budget protected along the way.

India yellow is warm, bright, and full of sunshine, which is exactly why we only used it on the top quarter of the wall.

In a space with this many different zones, a colour this bold could easily take over. Keeping it high lets it lift the room without overwhelming anyone who lives in it.

Sometimes the smartest use of a bright colour is knowing where to stop.
