Underneath the decisions and the daily logistics, there’s a story — or a cluster of them — quietly eating through your energy and shaping what you believe is possible. I’ll never be able to hold a business. I’m too much for people. I always end up here. These stories feel personal because they live in our particular bodies and our particular histories, but they are also ancient, collective, and genuinely older than any of us. The same flavors of doom have been circling the human psyche for millennia. Naming that doesn’t make the wound smaller. It makes the story slightly less convincing, and that turns out to be enough to start moving. This series is a weekly two-hour container for exactly that — built on community, storytelling, and the kind of art that doesn’t need to be good to be useful. We open with fifteen minutes of play prompts designed to poke gently at the seriousness with which we each carry our particular flavor of catastrophe. Not to dismiss it — to loosen its grip just enough that we can look at it clearly. Then the stories come out. Each person names the narrative running underneath their week — the specific, unglamorous inner monologue, not a polished version of it. Then the group reflects it back from the outside: not advice, not fixing, but the particular relief of having your story witnessed by people who recognize it, because they’ve been living some version of it too. The final half hour belongs to open creative play — no agenda, no product, nothing that needs to be good or finished or of use to anyone. Painting, writing, singing, sitting with a blank page, giggling, crying. The practice is transmutation: taking the raw material of the story and making something from it that isn’t the story anymore. We close with a circle — final thoughts, what landed, what’s shifting. Twelve weeks. Free. Come once or come all season. The Play Network and The Portal House, in cahoots. Richmond’s Favorite Alchemical Dance Collective harnessed the chaos of a thunderstorm (elemental clown) to make their first dance-video for Clown Witch (micro-season). Kindly, the lighting danced around us but kept its distance. Maybe, Storm loves a joke! . Flow is the antidote to fear. I’ve been coming to Friday pole jam @butterandfilth almost every week for two years. Occasionally, I’ll request a song. For the most part, I dance to whatever comes on. It’s been an ongoing experiment in relaxing control. The process of finding my flow state, a 𝘨𝘦𝘯𝘶𝘪𝘯𝘦 flow state, is unhurried and unforced. It is not a performance, it just is. I’m working towards 𝘭𝘪𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘨 from this flow. Slowly is holy.
