This is really special, ANNA in the NY Times.

Thank you Tim McKeough for the beautiful article, Oliver Parini for the amazing photos.

This first ANNA in the USA is for shepherd Yvette (ex-lawyer) and her husband Michael. They own a magical farm in Vermont.

Yvette and Michael are amazing people. They have supported us from the very start. They are what ANNA is all about. The love and care they radiate to eachother, the land, the animals and the people around them is inspiring. They feel they are stewards rather than ‘owners’ of the land. I am looking forward to the next chapter of our shared journey together.

If you are curious about Yvette’s life on the farm, in a couple of weeks I will be sharing diary notes of our buildup and stay with Yvette. Yvette took care of us with the same love and care as she looks after her sheep. She is inspiring, fun, and just great to be around.

This will be my new atelier space in the south of The Netherlands. Here I will be doing hands on experimentation, exploring space, mechanical movement and materiality in the shape of architectural objects and micro spaces. by @casparschols

Vortex is a dwelling suspended 5 meters above the ground that allows you to reveal the sun using a large shading sail mounted above, and open up to the wind by rotating a set of split glass layers; all performed by hand.

The compact space asks its inhabitants to actively reshape their environment throughout the day. Cooking, eating, resting, and gathering become deliberate acts rather than routines. by @casparschols

‘Missing Room’, is an experimental space which revolves around water and fire, which have been the core of the Home for thousands of years.

We created an abstraction, that allows for playful interaction and the invention of ones own rituals. We believe that rituals make Home.

Its steel platforms aren’t really defined for a certain use, just like rocks or trunks in a forest. Of which its use can be invented by the user every time again. We reduced the Home to the very core and only kept what’s practically of vital importance. Creating space for poetry.

With a large 7 meters tall totem in the middle, which marks a place of coming together rather than an actual building. The rituals around the totem allow you to directly connect with the object, eachother and the environment. Or should I say, Missing Room ‘allows you to be present’. The biggest challenge of (modern) life.

All encapsulated in a beautiful stainless steel skin. Because beauty matters.

We’re so excited to welcome @cabin_anna to Bloom.

Designed by Dutch architect and designer @casparschols, Cabin ANNA is a beautiful, shape-shifting structure made to move with the landscape around it. Its wooden and glass shells can slide open and closed, changing the space throughout the day and bringing the outside in. Light moves through it, the weather becomes part of it, and the view is always changing.

At the farm, ANNA has quickly become a place for writing, making art, gathering, meetings, quiet work, and the occasional good idea. It gives us a little more room to think and make while still feeling completely connected to everything happening outside.

We’ve already spent plenty of time in there, and we’re looking forward to seeing what else finds its way into ANNA. taken in Bloom Farm by @casparschols

De-Vice – # 4

The materials are an important part of the experience of De-Vice.

The exterior is steel, for its strength, durability, and ability to weather over time. Exposed to the elements, it records the passing of seasons and grounds the structure in the landscape.

By contrast the interior is finished in gold, capturing and reflecting light. As daylight shifts, the space changes with it. The gold turns the shell from a simple enclosure into a chamber for reflection.

The structure is anchored by boulders of the kind used to build Dutch hunebedden, megalithic chambers raised more than five thousand years ago and among the oldest surviving structures in the country. They were communal graves and places of ritual, understood as portals to another state of being. by @casparschols

De-Vice # 3

The Gold catches whatever light is available and changes character through the day; at night the open structure reads as a lantern, seven metres up. It is the only extravagance in an otherwise plain object - the spectacle of the opening shell set against exposed steel, a visible mechanism, one seat. by @casparschols
