The Ropes is dedicated to my first girlfriend, Michelle (1979-2025). This is an excerpt from a longer film.

With how personal this film is, it seemed right to ask Caspar to score it since he’s in the family. Caspar Sonnet makes brilliant experimental noise music and for this film, he repeated tape loops and scratched them with razor blades. With each repetition, the sound becomes more degraded and faded. @casparsonnet

Available today on L. Eugene Methe's fantastic Gertrude Tapes label out of Omaha, NE:

Broken Crow + Eloine - Moon in the Shape of a Hooch - CD / Digital

Broken Crow (Caspar Sonnet, Joel Nelson, Sam Klapper) and Eloine (Bryan Day).

Really excited to share this one. This was a blast to record at Caspar's studio in Portland with some bits recorded here in the Bay Area and mixed by Joel. Mastered by A.F. Jones. Artwork by Caspar. Check it out at the Gertrude Tapes Bandcamp page. by @casparsonnet

ANNOUNCE I’m heading to the east coast this Friday to celebrate @_jordumb & @melanie.barksdale‘s wedding and play a couple of shows in support for Carousel and Confounder’s tour. My beautiful wife Dehlia will accompany me to take pictures and help me with my mental distress lol. I will be performing as Arcade as well. So excited to see all my east coast homies! That’s the biggest win. I’ll be bringing three new Andromache releases with me as well and will announce those when I return.

OUT NOW
Caspar Sonnet
'A Good Deed Goes Wrong' CDr
Crud-fi noise and DIY sound assemblage captured in a vast, dilapidated mall, which is about to be shut down and demolished. It follows an engineer's journey containing themes of neglect, faint hopes, romance & possession. The mall never sleeps. It's always on the phone.

“A Good Deed Goes Wrong is a culmination of field recordings I harvested at the Lloyd Center Mall; where I’m currently an engineer. I utilized various recording techniques which included; pause button editing, tape manipulation, various mics and handheld tape machines. Took over a year and half putting this one together. Listening back, I can clearly hear the spirit wandering around there. A hungry ghost making sure I’ll tend to her wounds and madcap, whispering to me that all good things must come to pass. Ruin and Waterloo to be reborn anew!” - CS by @casparsonnet

In the belly of the beast with friends in arms and It’s been wild summer thus far! Great to be reacquainted with my lap-steel while taking advantage of this space that’s been lent to me at the place I work. Loren mentioned that what I’m doing is “space as instrument” sadly, that opportunity will be going away due to the mall being demolished, so I’ve been working hard capturing its ghost. Assembling tapes for batch release on Andromache too. Any minute now. Stay tuned! Thank you!
