This week, Detroit Serves Detroit partnered with CASS to provide a warm meal to our neighbors throughout Detroit. With the help of our incredible volunteers and supporters, we prepared and distributed over 100 meals featuring chicken subs, seasoned potato wedges, and Oreo truffles.

We are sincerely grateful to everyone who dedicated their time and effort to make this possible. Thank you for your continued support and for being part of our mission to serve and uplift our community. by @casscommunity

here’s a photo taken by my beloved @_quinnashley_ after she bought me the closest thing to a bottle of champagne served at @honestjohnsdetroit to celebrate IRON CHEF DETROIT III RAISING OVER $107,000 for @casscommunity.

the chicken finger pita slapped.

anybody who knows me for longer than a blink knows I’ve always been religiously agnostic. but i do have a mission. i do have a calling. i do have a purpose.

i am solely driven by a desire to support people who are making the world a better place.

i’ve had almost every imaginable privilege in my life and that didn’t spare me from reaching the darkest places. i was only able to climb out of that hole because of the love and support of community.

but not everybody looks more like a donor than a client no matter what they’re wearing. some people have to shape their entire lives around prejudices and biases that will never be exist toward me.

i don’t want to fu**ing sit around and debate your special little theories. i want to support people who are making the world a better place. let’s talk about how we do that. and then do it.

people discuss big structural issues and problems all the time. and they should.

but nothing is ever made worse by supporting people who are making the world a better place.

the $237K raised by iron chef detroit in the past three years is going to help make things better for people in our community.

we can pop the next bottle when we cross $1 million. help me do that.

🗣️ We are proud to announce Iron Chef Detroit III raised over $107,000!

On June 11th, over 800 guests gathered at @easternmarket to celebrate the Detroit culinary scene and witness a marquee matchup between two of our cities most celebrated chefs.

In a final score of 92-89 (out of 100), John Vermiglio (@greyghostdetroit, @basandetroit, @eatlittleghost, @secondbestdetroit) defeated reigning champion Andy Hollyday (@seldenstandard).

Our incomparable co-host @carlos_parisi was joined this year by chef, author & internet icon @jonkung.

The dynamic duo infused the evening with charm, energy and expertise. The natural (& knowledgeable) rapport between the pair made it feel like they’d been hosting together for decades.

Our panel of judges included Poet Laureate of Detroit @jessicacaremoor, Mamba Hamissi (@baobabfare) & former Iron Chef Detroit champion Anthony Lombardo (@shewolfdetroit @medusa_detroit).

ICD III continued a tradition of recognizing iconic Detroit brands as the “secret ingredient,” with @mcclurespickles joining @faygo & @bettermade1930 on that list.

‼️ 100% of proceeds from ICD benefit the work of Cass Community.

A major reason that’s possible is because each year 25+ places in metro Detroit donate thousands of dollars worth of food & drinks to our event.

Places like @cornbread.restaurant.bar, @ivy_detroit, @greendotstables, @johnnynoodleking, @aserendipitycakery, @chowhoundgourmetcatering, @yellowlightdetroit & @mrjoessportsbar have supported all three years!

Past ICD champions (Anthony Lombardo, Andy Hollyday, John Vermiglio) have had a Tasting Table at every event.

💵 Thanks to your support, Iron Chef Detroit has now raised over $235K in total!
