There aren’t many words to describe the feeling of a humpback whale locking eyes with you, choosing to interact. This whale danced around the group, if a whale could be a ballerina this whale would be it.

For 45 minutes, it circled us mugging the boat, spy-hopping, and twirling in the water, fully engaged. If we didn’t have another tour to get back for, I have no doubt it would have stayed longer.

Hexabranchus sanguineus is a form of nudibranch / sea slug it is amongst the largest nudibranchs
It gets the common name the Spanish Dancer for it’s ability to swim through the water 💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻

Being out on the water in the presence of these incredible humpback whales while getting to share the stoke with others is special.

A very curious humpback whale that came over to have a closer look 👀

Whale season is the best, it’s such a privilege to experience these incredible animals 🥹 that being said there are strict regulations in place to protect whales and keep encounters safe. In this case the boat remained still while this whale chose to approach us and come over for a closer look.
