1995 – CHAFFINCH🐦

The Chaffinch (Fringilla coelebs) was the bird of the 1995 vintage at #CastellareDiCastellina.

Found in woodlands, countryside and farmland across much of Europe, it is easily recognised by the two white bars on its wings. The male’s plumage becomes more vibrant during the breeding season, with reddish tones on the breast and shades of blue-grey on the head.

Since 1977, birds have accompanied Castellare’s vintages, with a different species each year, becoming one of the most recognisable symbols of our identity in #ChiantiClassico.

1995 - FRINGUELLO🐦

Il Fringuello (Fringilla coelebs) è stato l’uccellino dell’annata 1995 di #CastellareDiCastellina.

Diffuso nei boschi, nelle campagne e nelle aree coltivate di gran parte d’Europa, è facilmente riconoscibile per le due bande bianche sulle ali. Nel maschio, soprattutto durante il periodo riproduttivo, il piumaggio assume colori più intensi, con tonalità rossastre sul petto e sfumature grigio-azzurre sul capo.

Dal 1977, gli uccellini accompagnano le annate di Castellare, cambiando ogni anno e diventando uno dei segni più riconoscibili della nostra identità nel #ChiantiClassico. by @castellarewine

Green, fruity, gently peppery.

Castellare’s Olionovo is best enjoyed young, while it retains all the freshness of olives picked green and pressed straight away.
On the nose and palate, notes of artichoke and fruit mingle with the slight bitterness and peppery edge that define its Tuscan character.

Verde, fruttato, appena piccante.

L’Olionovo di Castellare è l’olio da assaggiare giovane, quando conserva tutta la freschezza delle olive raccolte verdi e frante subito.
Al naso e al palato ritornano il carciofo, il frutto e quella nota amarognola e piccante che fa parte del suo carattere toscano.

September in #ChiantiClassico means harvest.🍇

The grapes are picked parcel by parcel, following the different ripening times of each vineyard. Then they arrive at the winery, where the work continues straight away.
These are days of crates, pruning shears, tractors and long hours among the rows.

The 2026 harvest is now in full swing.

Settembre, in #ChiantiClassico, vuol dire vendemmia.🍇

Le uve vengono raccolte parcella per parcella, seguendo maturazione e tempi diversi per ogni vigneto. Poi arrivano in cantina, dove il lavoro continua subito.
Sono giorni fatti di cassette, forbici, trattori e tante ore tra i filari.

A distinctive identity that #CastellareDiCastellina proudly carries around the world, as a historic winery based in Castellina in Chianti, between Florence and Siena.

For a few weeks, Castellare’s Vinsantaia looks unlike any other room in the winery.

Bunches of Malvasia and Trebbiano grapes hang from the ceiling: they are not decoration, but the beginning of Vin Santo S. Niccolò.🍇

Here, the grapes are not laid out on mats to dry. They are hung from the beams and left to naturally wither as the air circulates through the room, before being transferred to the traditional caratelli.

It is one of the most fascinating moments to witness at the winery, as it reveals a part of the winemaking process that usually remains hidden behind what you find in the glass.

Per qualche settimana, la Vinsantaia di Castellare non assomiglia a nessun’altra stanza della cantina.

Dal soffitto scendono i grappoli di Malvasia e Trebbiano: non sono decorazione, ma l’inizio del Vin Santo S. Niccolò.🍇

Qui l’uva non viene stesa sui cannicci. Viene appesa alle travi, lasciata ad appassire con l’aria che circola naturalmente nella stanza, prima del passaggio nei caratelli.

È uno dei momenti più particolari da vedere in azienda, perché mostra una parte del lavoro che di solito resta fuori dal calice.

At the end of August, the white wines we feel like drinking begin to change too.

Canonico is a wine of structure and depth, aged in French oak barriques, yet supported by a freshness that remains present in the glass.

Notes of pear and toasted bread are joined by hints of green apple and orange peel.

A white wine to be served chilled, perfect for these late-August days, when summer is still in the glass but the table begins to shift its rhythm.

A fine agosto cambiano anche i bianchi che si ha voglia di bere.

Canonico un vino di struttura e profondità, vinificato in barrique di rovere francese, ma sostenuto da una freschezza che resta presente nel calice.

Alle note di pera e pane tostato si aggiungono richiami di mela verde e scorza d’arancia.
Un bianco da servire fresco, perfetto per questi giorni di fine agosto, quando l’estate è ancora nel calice ma la tavola inizia a cambiare ritmo.

Arriving at #CastellareDiCastellina, just before reaching the winery, you come across this tower.

It is one of the estate’s most distinctive landmarks and one of the first sights you encounter as you enter: the road behind you, the vineyards stretching out ahead.

From here, the perspective immediately changes. What you see is not just an estate, but the way Castellare belongs to its landscape, surrounded by woods and rolling hills opening out towards the horizon.

This too is part of the first experience of our estate: taking a moment to stop before beginning the visit.

Arrivando a #CastellareDiCastellina, prima della cantina, c’è questa torre.

È uno degli elementi distintivi dell’azienda e uno dei primi riferimenti che si incontrano entrando in tenuta: alle spalle la strada e davanti i vigneti.

Da qui lo sguardo cambia subito scala. Non si vede solo una tenuta, ma il modo in cui Castellare è inserita nel suo paesaggio: boschi e colline che si aprono fino all’orizzonte.

Il primo ingresso nella nostra azienda è anche questo: fermarsi un momento prima di iniziare la visita. by @castellarewine

With the 2022 vintage, I Sodi di S. Niccolò celebrates 45 harvests and returns to black: a special label created to mark an important milestone in the history of #CastellareDiCastellina.🍷

First produced in 1977, this wine remains true to its origins: Sangioveto and Malvasia Nera, the two grape varieties that have always defined its identity, depth, and remarkable ageing potential.

At the heart of the label, as tradition dictates, is the bird of the vintage: the European Stonechat, a small inhabitant of Castellare’s vineyards.🐦

Con la 2022, I Sodi di S. Niccolò celebra 45 vendemmie e torna a vestirsi di nero: un’etichetta speciale, pensata per raccontare un traguardo importante nella storia di #CastellareDiCastellina.🍷

Nato nel 1977, I Sodi resta fedele alla sua origine: Sangioveto e Malvasia Nera, i due vitigni che da sempre ne definiscono identità, profondità e capacità di durare nel tempo.

1990 - ROBIN🐦

The Robin (Erithacus rubecula) was the bird featured on the 1990 vintage of #CastellareDiCastellina.

One of the most recognizable birds thanks to its distinctive orange-red breast, it lives along woodland edges, in the countryside and in cultivated areas. Small and territorial, it is often associated with the arrival of the colder seasons, when its presence becomes more noticeable, even around the vineyards.

On the label, the Robin continues the story that began in 1977: every vintage of Castellare features a different bird, symbolizing the winery’s respect for the environment, flora and fauna of the #ChiantiClassico.🍷

1990 - PETTIROSSO🐦

Il Pettirosso (Erithacus rubecula) è stato il volto dell’annata 1990 di #CastellareDiCastellina.

Tra gli uccelli più riconoscibili per il petto aranciato, vive ai margini dei boschi, nelle campagne e nelle aree coltivate. Piccolo e territoriale, è spesso legato all’arrivo delle stagioni più fredde, quando la sua presenza diventa più evidente anche vicino alle vigne.

Sull’etichetta, il Pettirosso prosegue il racconto iniziato nel 1977: ogni annata di Castellare porta con sé un uccellino diverso, simbolo del rispetto dell’azienda per l’ambiente, la flora e la fauna del #ChiantiClassico.🍷 by @castellarewine

At Castellare, Chardonnay has a name: Canonico.

Born in Castellina in Chianti and aged in barriques, it gains structure and depth without losing its freshness. In the glass, notes of pear, white peach, green apple and almond emerge, followed by a delicate toasted nuance.

A full-bodied yet effortlessly drinkable white. The kind of wine that flows easily and reveals something more with every sip.

Nasce a Castellina in Chianti e affina in barrique, dove acquista struttura e profondità senza perdere freschezza. Nel bicchiere arrivano pera, pesca bianca, mela verde, mandorla e una leggera nota tostata.

From above, #CastellareDiCastellina reveals its landscape: vineyards, woodlands and olive groves alternating across the hills of #CastellinaInChianti.

A landscape shaped by the union of historic estates, where each vineyard still bears an ancient name.

Among them is I Sodi di San Niccolò. “Sodi” was the name traditionally given to the hardest plots of land to work—precisely those soils that, at Castellare, are considered the most suitable for growing vines.🍇

Two expressions of #ChiantiClassico by #CastellareDiCastellina.

On one side, Chianti Classico 2024, made from Sangioveto and Canaiolo: fragrant and fresh, with notes of red fruit, liquorice and blackcurrant. A versatile and immediate wine that clearly expresses the character of Castellina in Chianti.

On the other, Il Poggiale 2023, Chianti Classico Riserva: produced from a single vineyard and a blend of Sangioveto, Canaiolo and Ciliegiolo. Deeper and more structured, yet always precise, with notes of violet, ripe cherry and a subtle mineral vein.

Chianti Classico interpreted through native grape varieties and Castellare’s distinctive style.

Da una parte il Chianti Classico 2024, Sangioveto e Canaiolo: fragrante, fresco, con note di frutta rossa, liquirizia e ribes. Un vino versatile, diretto, capace di raccontare con immediatezza il carattere di Castellina in Chianti.

Dall’altra Il Poggiale 2023, Chianti Classico Riserva: nasce da un’unica vigna e da un blend di Sangioveto, Canaiolo e Ciliegiolo. Più profondo e strutturato, ma sempre preciso, con note di viola, ciliegia matura e una sottile vena minerale.
