POV lead vehicle. The Castell Grind is an iconic annual gravel cycling event held in the remote town of Castell, Texas, roughly 90 minutes west of Austin. Launched in 2014, it has grown into a “grassroots” favorite in the Texas Hill Country, known for its scenic views, challenging terrain, and a community atmosphere centered around the Castell General Store. #castellgrind #castelltexas #castellgeneralstore #mortgagebanker taken in Castell, Texas by @castellgrind

PHOTO LINK UPDATE & THANK YOU
Huge thank you to all our racers, volunteers, sponsors, spectators, and local supporters. Putting on the Castell Grind is no small feat. It takes a lot of time and the help of some incredible people to make it happen each year. We truly could not do it without such a strong support system.

A special shoutout to the racers for picking up after themselves. We saw a huge improvement. This was the cleanest course we have ever had. Hardly any trash and only a couple of bottles left behind. Let’s keep it up. Leave no trace.

You can find all 2026 race photos and results on our website:

COURSE REPORT AS OF 4/9/26
Course looks fast this year. There as been some grading. Low sand and low washboards. Any rain will just make it better. Expect the all corners to be loose gravel so use extra caution.

Started out in a sea of 300+ people, with a not-so-neutral neutral roll-out, then wheel-surfed for the first 10 miles, and ultimately soloing for over half of the race…

I finished 1st among the women + 10th overall. This was my exact goal for the day, and I’ve left myself speechless for pulling it off.

Keeping the momentum going and defending my omnium position this weekend at Lit Whizzy.

Castell Grind 2025 was definitely an experience to remember. Lee and I made it into Castell Friday evening and met up with the guys from Race Ready Repair. We headed down to the general store for dinner and enjoyed the shrimp, catfish and frog leg platter. While we were eating, Porkchop, a Welsh Corgi decided to come over and greet us. After sniffing Lee’s shoe, and most likely smelling Lee’s dogs, decided to take aim at my left shoe and unloaded. Fortunately I realized quickly enough with minimal damage. 😆 This provided quite the laugh for the group and a funny story to take home with us. After this, we had a great evening hanging out with the crew back at the Vrbo. Later that night, we had some storms which made the course a little muddy and unpredictable the next morning. I slept well that night, had an early breakfast and was ready to go. The morning of the race, a few of us decided to ride about 4 miles to the start line which was a nice warm up. It was cold, windy and a little misty, as we waited for the start. Chad, Lee and I tried to stay together at the start. Everyone was dodging water bottles for the first few miles as the washboard was brutal. At this point, I found myself a little ahead of the group and decided to push forward, looking for someone or a group to work with. I worked with fellow Cantu Cycling Wheels teammate Nicole Jurich for a while until we took a wrong turn and shortly thereafter, I dropped a chain and lost about 15-20 seconds. I’m guessing around mile 15 or 20, I caught back up having been alone the majority of that time. It was at this point that Paul, decided to fly up behind me. We were headed straight into a head wind and he was pushing a strong 18-20 mph on a MTB with 2.4” tires. Paul and I worked together for the next 40 miles with him doing the majority of the work. I let him know early on that he was one heck of a strong rider and although he was much stronger than I was, that if he needed a break, I’d do some work as well. Along the way, we picked up 10-12 additional riders but when the dust settled, Paul and I crossed the finish line together ahead of the others, except for Noah Schlosser, another teammate. Fantastic ride legs felt great. Most of the abundant energy cycling team stayed together and worked awesomely as a team.

Five miles into the race, I lost one of my water bottles, which contained my nutrition. Before the race, I prayed about everything, asking God to help my fuel wells and make everything go smoothly.

When I lost my bottle, I thought I was screwed, but then I remembered 2 Corinthians 12:9-11 In my weakness, God shows his strength, and Jesus is enough. I finished strong and shared some of my bottles with a buddy who lost both of his.

Finished 22nd and set a 3hr power record for myself.

Jesus Christ is my strength!

Special shout out to my awesome wife holding down the fort while I race my bike!
