🎉 Mucho congratulations to Leon from @questinyboardgame for winning the final competition to become a permanent Infantry card in the game!💥🙌

Leon is now immortalised in the final version of Castle Beef as a permanent Infantry card, but his list of amazing achievements doesn’t stop there! He’s also been playing around with a game of his own called Questiny! And if you haven’t heard about it, then you must have been lost in some confusing dungeon labyrinth for the last few years!

It’s live right now on Kickstarter and if you’re a fan of dungeon crawlers, HeroQuest, and more, then please do go and check it out. Leon is an absolutely lovely fella and from the sound of all the reviews I’ve read – he’s made an incredibly outstanding game 🫶🙌🤩 The Kickstarter link is in his bio and I’ll tag him on this post.

This week’s #BoardGameProtoHype subject is Downtime, so let’s talk about what’s been cooking behind the scenes with Castle Beef while I was off the grid! 🏰✨
As you probably saw in my last post, I’ve been head-first in my absolute fave part of game dev: drawing the custom infantry cards for our awesome Competition winners! 🎨⚔️
On top of tweaking rules and doing nerdy stuff, the Kickstarter funds finally hit the account. You know what that means... yesterday we planted ANOTHER 54 trees in the Forest of Castle Beef! 🌲🥳
This is huge, and it wouldn’t have happened without every single one of you legends who backed, shared, and cheered us on. So once again a massive thanks!

For those who don’t know: every single copy of Castle Beef sold plants a real-life tree. 🌳 So while we’re out here ruining friendships over board games, we’re also casually fighting climate change and dropping CO₂ levels! 💥💪🤩

Hello everyone! I’ve been away for a while, enjoying a break from social media, and after the launch posting frenzy, it was very much needed!

I’m back in the Keep now, though, and it’s been great to get back to drawing again! My latest creation is none other than my dear brother, Clive! Yes, in a vain attempt to prove the competitions were not fixed, I read out the comments to my kids, and they promptly selected my brother’s entry, thus making it look like a giant fix!?! 😡😂

As you can see, my legendary brother is a bit movie-obsessed! He’s written, starred in, directed, and produced his own work, and now teaches our next generation of film and TV heros!

I hope you like his Infantry card. As a winner, my big bro is now immortalised as a permanent card in the game! 🫶🤩

I’ll keep you posted as I crack on with all the Castle Beef work. A few of you may already know who’s up next! It’s the final competition winner — Leon from @questinyboardgame ! 🥳🤩😍

🏰 How to Play Castle Beef

🐄 Build your castle, recruit your army, create powerful weapons (and maybe even hatch a dragon🐉 or fiery worm🪱)

🏰 On your turn you’ll either build your kingdom or dump unwanted cards to cycle your hand before unleashing chaos on your opponents.

🐄 The last Royal family standing is the winner!

💭 My Thoughts

🏰 Castle Beef is a brilliantly fun battling card game. The colourful artwork has so much personality, with each card helping to build the story of your kingdom.

🐄 A year ago I would’ve said attacking games weren’t for me. Looking back, I just hadn’t played games where battling your opponents was the main mechanic. My experience had mostly been with strategy games where players could hinder your progress instead, which feels very different.

🏰 Castle Beef embraces the chaos. Everyone knows exactly what they’re in for, so every attack just adds to the fun.

🐄 I personally think this one shines with more players, it create plenty of laughs and fun interactions.

🏰 Who would have the surviving Royal family at your table? 👑🤴🏻🫅
