First and foremost, I would like to start by saying that I will probably cry at some point writing this post.

I first started getting tattooed by Natalie at the ripe old age of 19 (a whopping 5 years ago). The very first piece she ever did for me was the woman on my right arm, a symbol of hope amidst an ever raging storm. A perfect metaphor for my mental health at the time. It was such a profound experience and I was so excited to not only wear an incredible piece of art but also to have it created by such an incredible human being.

This journey of the back piece follows a very similar metaphor. We started in October, which was particularly rough time for me that only ended up getting rougher before it’s got any sort of better (as these things normally go).

I looked forward each month to getting to see Natalie and work on a piece of art I’d been planning for years. It was a mental oasis. It reminded me that I could do hard things and be surrounded by good people. It connected me back to myself, which is one of my absolute favorite things about tattooing and art.

Being able to talk to someone outside of my everyday circle about the things I was going through was liberating to say the least. Getting to talk about those things while also having my entire back being stabbed with a needle, was an oddly metaphoric and meaningful experience. It was healing. And I am so incredibly grateful to Natalie and tattooing for that. Thank you for helping me find myself.

And thank you to all the artist who have tattooed me over the years. That you for allowing to find and express myself in a way I never have been allowed to before. Thank you for bringing me back to art and back to me. Here’s to the tattoos and art of the future.

Also watching Natalie growth throughout the years both on tattooing and self in an honor and makes me incredibly proud. You are an amazing human and thank you for your friendship and your art.

Technique work on snatches, push press PRs in a complex, fun with clean and jerks and (of course) a lot of squats (in wave form this time).

Lifting with the girls is always a good time!

I still need to learn how to jerk but OH MY GOD have we gotten stronger! I haven’t clean and jerked for 5 months fun and I had so much fun getting to do a complex again! Ahhhh And it felt so smooth (besides the jerk but hey, I could not have saved a jerk like that 5 months ago lol).

Ending with a nice 140kg deadlift triple. Week 1 has been so fun so far!

I can’t thank @coachb.rucker enough for all she’s done for me the past ten months since we started working together.A lot of pivots but she’s been in my corner every day of it and for that I’m so grateful!

And the @clintonvillebarbell community has been instrumental in making me feel supported and cared for! Thank you for listening to me and holding me while I cried on the gym floor multiple times.

They say difficult roads lead to beautiful destinations, and everything I have experienced in my life and proved that to be true. But I have also come to learn that the journey on those roads, is where the real meaning lies.

We celebrated Julia’s birthday, but I somehow got the best present: puppy cuddles.

Happy birthday, Julia! I can’t believe you’re 13! Thank you for being the best little sister I never had and to your parents for being such amazing friends! Your family is mine and vise versa. Pulled a nice little 160kg for my last day training @bexarbarbell ! Happy to go 140kg, 160kg for my squat and deadlift this week after a hard cycle! My glutes are so sore😂

Thank you Brittany for being the best coach and host! Im so grateful I got to spend the weekend with you and your pack!
