BHB is possibly one of the best places to dive in WPB because... 🥰

You can see Sergeant Majors protecting their eggs

There's (multiple) Hammerhead statues that bring lots of small creatures

The sandy bottom is a perfect place to play hide n seek with Flounders

There are millions of banded coral shrimp

Look how cute their little claws are!

There are many beautiful yellow sting rays patrolling around

There are chunky crabs trying to box with you

You can see male seahorses pregnant

And, of course, spot a majestic eagle ray feeding

All while enjoying the sunset... taken in Phil Foster Park at Blue Heron Bridge by @cata0001

"If it makes you happy... why are you so sad?"

Because the ocean is giving us reasons to be.

💙 A few facts worth thinking about:

🦈 Over one-third of sharks and rays are threatened with extinction, primarily because of overfishing. (IUCN Red List)

🐟 Nearly 40% of the world's fish stocks are being harvested at biologically unsustainable levels. (UN FAO, 2024)

🪸 Healthy coral reefs support about 25% of all marine species, despite covering less than 1% of the ocean floor. (NOAA)

🌊 Sharks help keep marine food webs balanced. When apex predators disappear, reef ecosystems and fish populations can become less stable. (NOAA)

🐠 Around 1 billion people rely on fish as a primary source of protein, making healthy oceans essential for both wildlife and people. (UN FAO)

🪸 Scientists estimate that living coral cover has declined by about half since the 1950s due to climate change, pollution, disease, and destructive fishing practices. (Global Coral Reef Monitoring Network)

⚓ In 2025–2026, the U.S. reopened some previously protected marine monument waters to commercial fishing, while also expanding support for offshore energy development—decisions that continue to be debated by scientists, conservation groups, and the fishing industry. Sources: Reuters, NOAA.

The ocean doesn't need saving from nature.

It needs saving from us. by @cata0001

Tiny hitchhiker, big problem 🐟🦐

That little isopod on this ocean surgeon isn’t a friend—it’s a parasite.

Parasitic isopods latch onto reef fish and feed at their host's expense, costing the fish energy and sometimes affecting growth and health. This is one reason cleaning stations are so important on healthy reefs: cleaner species help remove unwanted hitchhikers and reduce parasite loads.

Next time you're diving, look closely. Some of the most fascinating reef interactions are happening on a scale most divers swim right past! taken in Phil Foster Park at Blue Heron Bridge by @cata0001
