I accidentally won a fashion contest…

I was working at @Kinship_pdx when Gaia told me about a Project Runway like contest that weekend. I thought about it a lot, and thanks to the encouragement of my friends, I decided to sign up the night before.

I showed up the next day at Goodwill, where I met all the designers and our fabulous host @jazzaniah

We had $50 and 30 minutes to come up with an idea and get materials.

Searching for a statement piece, I found the yellow and green soccer ball, below it a matching taekwondo belt. After that, I found two table cloths and tank top that also, luckily, matched.

Then we headed over to Kinship to bring our ideas to life. We had 5 hours to put them together and fit them on our models.

I made a track suit with pants measuring 8.5 feet long, to create a bulky look, and show the amount of material that can come from the most common things. I cropped the tank top, quickly carved the soccer ball, accessorized, and my look was complete.

That night, we presented to a room of judges and other community members.

The next day, we presented our looks at @filamfashionweek ‘s fashion show, where they announced the winner… me?!?!?!

Seeing my work down the runway for the first time and being celebrated for it was an exhilarating experience, and I can’t wait to feel that again!
