Los Niños Santos, the sacred medicine of the Mazatec people, are revered as living, conscious beings, holy teachers that open the heart to wisdom, healing, and the sacred. Legendary curandera María Sabina of Oaxaca carried their voice through her chants, poems, and veladas, becoming a timeless guardian of this medicine and a vessel of ancestral power. Today, modern science affirms what Indigenous traditions have always known: the active compound in Los Niños stimulates neuroplasticity—literally “rewiring” the brain through increased connectivity, ego dissolution, and the creation of new synapses—helping release trauma, ease depression and anxiety, and open pathways for renewal, creativity, and divine connection.

Closing my 12-day Master Plant Dieta in the Amazon with the Maestras Shipibo 🌿

Here Maestra Matilde blows mapacho through my hands, sealing the work, the prayers, and the teachings I received during these days in the jungle.

Dieta slowly removes the noise of the world, distractions, comforts, expectations, until what remains is your relationship with the plants, the land, and the deepest parts of yourself.

I am deeply grateful to the Shipibo guardians and wisdom keepers who continue to carry these traditions with such humility and integrity. Studying the plants directly from the source is a profound reminder that the medicine path is not a trend or an overnight passage; it is a lineage, a devoted lifestyle, a living culture, and a responsibility.

A responsibility to walk with humility. To honor the elders and the lands that protect this wisdom. To study with patience and discipline. To carry the teachings with integrity and never forget where they come from. The plants teach, but the elders show us how to listen.

This path asks us to listen more than we speak.

Most of us spend our lives trying to avoid discomfort.

We want clarity without uncertainty.
Growth without challenge.
Transformation without having to fall apart first.

But when I look back on my own life, and when I listen to stories like Catalina's, the moments that changed us most weren't the easy ones.

They were the seasons that asked us to sit in what felt uncomfortable, messy, uncertain, and unresolved.

🌟MEET THE TRIBE
Maria Catalina Naranjo is a modern day curandera, medicine woman, bridging the gaps between ancient and modern worlds. She is a medicine keeper and musician. Her aim is to demystify Sacred Medicines, remove stigmas, educate the masses, and make these healing modalities accesible to everyone.

She is a sound alchemist, singer-songwriter, song carrier, and multi-instrumentalist. Sharing sound healing transmissions and divine channeled frequencies is her gift to the world.

She follows the Ingan traditions of the Sibundoy Valley and Putumayo, Colombia in the South American Andes; Also known as the belly button of the Amazons.

As a medicine woman she communes with Mother Nature with an array of Amazonian ancestral practices from the plant kingdom and amphibian kingdom. She has been initiated in the facilitation of ceremonial spaces with Pachamama rooted practices. Her intention as a wisdom keeper is to be a channel and anchor of healing to all of humanity through these ancient medicines. by @catalinaranjo
