Assessment Wednesday 💚 Fine motor edition!
You don't need a worksheet to assess fine motor skills. These everyday activities tell you so much:
✋ Tearing paper: Are both hands working together? One holds while the other tears.
🟠 Pom poms in a bottle: Can they use a pincer grasp (thumb + pointer) and aim for a small opening?
🥢 Tongs: Do they have the hand strength to squeeze and the control to release where they want?
🎃 Placing pieces: Can they pick up flat, thin pieces and place them on purpose?
Watch how they do it, not just whether they finish. Are they using a whole-hand grab or fingertips? Switching hands? Getting frustrated or sticking with it? That's your data!
Save this for your next fine motor check-in 📌 Which one does your class love most?

Following directions, pumpkin style 🎃 1 step, then 2, then 3, and a finished pumpkin face. This is the same pumpkin face bin from Wednesday's post, now in action. Save this for your pumpkin week! What's your go-to way to check following directions?

Fall sensory bin, fully loaded 🍂 Hand-poured pumpkins, twisty beans, and golden corn, all mixed into one orchard-themed sensory fill. This is one of my new sensory bin lines, and it's launching soon. Want first access when it drops? Get on the list, link in bio. What would you add to this mix?

Coffee first. Everything else second.

No matter how tired you are this Monday, Rex is still more tired.

Assessment Wednesday! 📝 This week we retold The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything by Linda Williams, and it’s the perfect October read for retelling.
Here’s how I make retelling work for every learner in my pre-K autism classroom:
Read the story and ask simple questions
Students answer by putting in the picture pieces, no words needed
Keep asking “What did she see next?” to build the sequence
Model the core word NOT on the AAC device every time she’s not afraid
Take data in the moment on my retelling assessment sheet
Every learner gets a way to show what they know, and I walk away with real data for IEP goals without an extra sit-down.

Save this for your next read-aloud!

Comment “NOT” if you model core words during story time

Quality control update from Duke: he has reviewed the haunted house and will not be entering. Memo filed.

Are you a Halloween scaredy-cat too?

What is something you are not looking forward to this weeK? by @catchem_early

You can count to 20 in 4 silly voices, but good luck remembering your own pin 😅 Counting bears? Easy. Debit card pin? No idea. Brain space is fully allocated. What's something you've forgotten because of pre-K brain?

Stirring the pot with a magic wand 🪄 Students stir, say the chant, and pull out a letter to name. Save this for your Halloween week! What chant would you use?

Would you like to see a Christmas Theme one?

Fresh off the print bed! 🧃✨ If you’ve ever had a kiddo give their juice box one big squeeze and end up WEARING it… these are for you. 😅 Juice box holders that keep little hands from crushing the box, so the juice stays in the box and off the shirt.
And those cute little feet? They’re there to keep it steady, so no tip-overs at snack time! 🐾

Yellow or purple with stars? Tell me your favorite or is there a color you would like to see?👇

Assessment Wednesday: letter recognition 👻 Pull a letter from the cauldron, then ask 3 questions: What letter is it? What sound does it make? Can you name something that starts with it? Each child answers at their own level, and that level is your data. Swipe for the steps! How do you check letter recognition?
