“Before an interview with @roparrish and @crock39 I crossed paths with @kingjaybarnett backstage.

He gave me his book, signed it, and spoke life into me when I was still finding my way as a writer.

His Just Heal Bro Journal reminded me that Black men have stories that deserve to be heard and healed.

Now that I’ve published my own book, I just want to say thank you for the inspiration and example.

One conversation, one book, one act of belief can change how far another man keeps going.
Respect always, King. #JustHealBro.” taken in Dallas, Texas by @catchyouontherebound

I’ve spent most of my life being someone people look up at. I’m still discovering what it means to give them something to carry home.

At Ulaanbaatar’s 40th National Book Festival, NEPKO made room for my story. A basketball hoop. My book. A conversation with their CEO. People waiting for photographs, for signatures, for a moment together.

And there I was, trying to take it all in.

You spend so much time alone with an idea that you cannot imagine the faces it will one day bring you. Then someone places your book in your hands and asks you to sign it. Something you once struggled to put into words now belongs in another person’s life.

I don’t take that lightly.

Every person who stopped gave something back to me. The courage to keep writing. Another reason to trust my imagination. A reminder that being present with people is part of the work, too.

Happy Birthday Daddy 🫂🫀 🕊️ ♎️ Love you always

Rule 2: 50/50 Ball
Chapter 6: Win some, Lose some

Change doesn’t knock from the outside, it starts here, in the quiet moments.

On the balcony, on the court, on the green, in the pages we read, and the promises we keep.

I’m learning that the person I’m waiting for is me. Change won’t come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we’ve been waiting for.”
